Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was a formidable force in the wrestling community long before he ever joined the cast of epic blockbuster and world-wide hit franchise [Furious 7](tag:264263). That was far before a career littered with mega hits. He even has an HBO TV series now in [Ballers](tag:1144669) that has been picked up for a second season and the guy is overall just #winning. But not in a Charlie Sheen way... in a very clean-cut, but still sexy and swagged out way.
A lot of people who have grown to love this dude over the span of his movie career don't even realize how amazing he was as a wrestler. I mean, like...
Ar you kidding me? Childhood was an amazing time for me; very much because of this man.
The dude is buff... but is he too buff?
To take a quote out of his underrated film with Mark Wahlberg, [Pain & Gain](tag:319897), the dude has been "a monument to physical perfection" for years. To take another quote from the film, he's been "a shrine." The problem is, with a dude like The Rock, you think he's too scary looking and freakishly buff to have a long-lasting career, right?
This dude is one of the coolest guys ever and a genuine gentle giant. Below, I plan on showing you a few reasons why we love him... even if he's probably not winning an Oscar anytime soon - let's be honest.
1. The Rock sideswiped a dudes car, but was super chill about it and ended up making the guy's day
Here's a fun story to start your week off... I'm driving to set in my pick up truck - music blasting - I'm singing away like I'm having a one man party in my truck - then I hear a loud BANG. What the hell..? Look in my rear view and see I sideswiped another pick up that was parked in the street and destroyed the side mirror. First thing I thought was, "Aw shit.. someone's not gonna be happy..". I flipped a U-turn and drove back to scene. Just as I got out of my truck a guy was walking across the street to his truck. I said "Sir, is this your truck?". He stopped and stared at me for a good 5 seconds, looked around his neighborhood, looked back at me and "Yes it is. Why?". I said "Well, sorry to tell ya I sideswiped it and knocked the hell outta your mirror and may have done even more damage. You give me your info and I'll leave you mine and I'll take care of everything". He stared at me again, cocked his head sideways and said.."Uhhh.. Are you The Rock?". I said "Yup". He broke out into a huge smile and said "Wow, this is gonna be an awesome story!". I started belly laughing at that, then he started laughing and before you know it we're both standing in the middle of the street pointing to his mirror and laughing like two ol' crazy buddies. I checked back in with him a few days later and he refused to accept any money and said he fixed the damage himself. Want to thank Mr. Audie Bridges of Wakefield, Mass. for being so cool about the whole thing. Life is funny cause you never know who you're gonna run into... and sure as hell never know who's truck you're gonna sideswipe while driving to work.
This story is amazing, but on a side note: I truly don't mind if The Rock smashes into my car. I mean, what am I going to do, fight him? I would get pulverized.
2. This meme exists and it's amazing
The Rock hugging a real rock is a photo that exists, with the caption "Love yourself." I'm pretty sure it's in my top ten favorite photos that exists on the Internet. So totally perfect.
3. The Rock bought his mom a new car, documented it, and it was somehow the most adorable thing ever
I need to hang out with The Rock's mom. She somehow made her son into one of the coolest dudes alive, and it's not just because of the acting... or the muscles... or the charisma... or the charm. It's the combination of that and the fact that he seems like a truly genuine guy!
4. He made The Tooth Fairy because he doesn't care what anyone thinks
There's not much that needs to be said about this, but I will say that a man as masculine and built as The Rock doing this film proves he is extremely comfortable in his own skin - which many aren't. This movie may have been subpar at best, but it opened our eyes to the greatness that is Dwayne.
5. He's pretty much the closest thing we have to a real-life superhero
The Rock's character in [Furious 7](tag:264263) completely revamped the entire franchise. He does ridiculous stunts, looks amazing, and is a badass in almost all of his action movies. I will more than likely see the next Rock film, even if it isn't very good. Just because... The Rock.
Sidenote: He'll be playing Black Adam soon, which I legitimately can't wait for.
6. Not only does he look the part, but he's legitimately an athlete
Anybody who knows the game of college football can attest to the fact that starting for the Miami Hurricanes (and eventually getting a shot in the NFL, but shifting to wrestling and acting shortly thereafter) proves The Rock is a legitimate freak athlete. He's got the goods. Those muscles aren't for show; the man works hard. There's something to be said for that.
I would argue that his work ethic transferred to his movie and TV career, which has been successful and very, very busy.
7. The Rock can do no wrong
Trying to convince me that The Rock isn't a good actor would be like trying to tell me the sky isn't blue. I'd simply write you off as a lunatic who doesn't see anything the way that it really is. No, but in all seriousness, it's hard to find such genuine likability in Hollywood, and this man brings it... in droves.
He's done nothing but good throughout his life and is a positive figure in Hollywood. I hope this was a pleasant little bit of Rock-stalgia for ya', and here's to another round of amazing films and TV appearances for Hollywood's chillest dude.
Check out Ballers if you haven't yet. It's an absolute guilty pleasure of mine and I urge you to give it a shot. Just don't take it too seriously. Denzel Washington's son is on it!
