Wow what a week 2! So far the 2015 NFL season has produced some gems and some major heart attacks for many of us betting folk. After a disastrous Week 1 I had hoped to bounce back with a strong Week 2. But never bet on the NFL to be on your side when you need it the most. Many were convinced KC would win Thursday night and we were all sitting pretty with minutes away from covering a 2 bet parlay and then boom. You realize that you just bet against Peyton Manning.
After that debacle I went back the next day and changed a few picks. I apologize for not updating you faithful readers but I promise next time any update will be posted. So anyway, I went back and I switched my pick from Bills to Patriots. After Manning's performance I realized it would be dumb to bet against the best QB's in the league and Manning continues to prove critics wrong who just want to see 500 yard passing games instead of just winning.
As far as our Fan Duel BEAT DOWN goes, the contest was intensifying and came down to a Monday Night showdown with the Jets & Brandon Marshall against a depleted Colts secondary. But a conservative game plan defused any hopes at jumping back into the upper class and allowed "bomb_23_squad" to take the top prize. Together we congratulate and shake our fists at you.
Looking back at our picks we went 5-6 in the early games, and kind of picked up the slack with the later games. I switched the Dolphins pick to Jacksonville because I realized they are the same team and it was gonna be a tough battle for the Phins and I didn't trust them @ Jacksonville. The Raiders killed me but hey they killed everyone and I made up even more ground with the Jets who after week 2 are sitting pretty in their usual spot tied with the Pats atop the AFC East. After going 3-2 in the late games we level off with an 8-8 week bringing our total to 13-19. Still below 500 but we are slowly chipping away at the masterpiece.
SO LET'S GET BACK TO IT! BEAT DOWN GO!
BEAT DOWN OF THE WEEK
Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1) at New England Patriots (2-0) -13.5
Let's face it folks, the Pats are gonna be in a lot of these. The real question is will they be able to cover or not. There' lots of speculation whehter the Pats will stick it betters like they did or should they bet with confidence on the this seemingly winnable game.
One thing for sure the Pats can and will scrore but with a bad defense and it still being pre-November anything is possible. The one constant is that Tom Brady is still here and he is doing his best Blues Brothers impression right now.
The Jags have improved but a lot went into beating an overrated Miami team. Expect a hot start but the Pats will find a way to D. All they need is a few 3 and outs, and then Brady to Gronk will prevail.
Washington Redskins (1-1) at New York Giants (0-2) -3.5
Once again Giants nation is in a frenzy. Everyone expected us Jets fans to be in shambles by now but my how the tables have turned. Look I'm not one to brag but suck it through Week 2 G-Nation. How does it feel to be the less popular than a rat carrying a pizza down the subway?! Jokes aside that is still Eli Manning at the helm and you never know when he is gonna blow up for a winning streak. Sure it hasn't happened for a while but he gets a pass from me with those two rings. Till death do you part Big Blue.
As far as the Skins go, I should've stuck with them through week 2. I've liked Kirk Cousins for a while now and had always thought after RGIII's second major industry he should've always had the job no matter what. He's still a raw QB and has the knack for making clutch throws. With that said if the Giants go 0-3 the hot seat will go nuclear.
Oakland Raiders (1-1) at Cleveland Browns (1-1) -3.5
If you've ever wondered how to ruin a good thing look no further than to Cleveland...again (#HEAT4LIFE). To the surprise of pretty much everyone on the face of the universe, the Cleveland Browns have decided to take the starting job from Johnny Manziel and give it back to Josh McCown. You have to remember that Mike Pettine learned from the best in Rex Ryan on how to perfect the art of the quarterback controversy, so it should not come as a surprise to us that this happened. We should all just sit back relax and enjoy the dumpster fire that is about to ensue.
Where as the Raiders are trending up and find themselves in a great position to get a jump on the AFC West. You're talking about KC heading into a Monday Night match up at GB after having their souls ripped out on Thursday Night (Remember what happened last year to KC when the same thing happened? Two words- losing streak) and SD facing a formidable Minnesota team. Al Davis must truly be smiling among the football Gods at the prospect of his precious silver and black. But the key is going to be sustaining the momentum and trying to not look ahead to their match-up with Denver in October. If they can take advantage of the QB debacle and put the Browns in an early hole you can bet the Raiders will pour it on especially with Derrick Carr Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree all on the same page.
Look I like Johnny but it's obvious that he is suffering from Tebowism- you know the deadly plaque created by peers, media and an uninformed public that causes them to fear the unique and unknown and eventually hinder the development of new ideas and techniques- and I've watched NFL long enough to know that as a QB if your situation hasn't developed to that of what Russel Wilson, or Brady or Roethlisberger, or even the Mannings are where you have immediate success in some shape or form either by stats or by record, you're not gonna play for the same team for more than a couple of years. Already there has been way to much controversy made of Manziel and after getting benched while he is saying all the right things you know Johnny is more than likely thinking of an exit strategy. I can see him bolting Cleveland for Jerry's World or the the Big Apple if he doesn't regain the starting job.
Mike Pettine is taking a big risk sitting Johnny and bringing in McCown because not only have you put a TON of pressure on McCown to perform at a high level but also if they do get down to the Raiders or get caught in a shootout it might be difficult for Johnny to come in again and save the day. Granted this isn't a Jets secondary or pass rush he'll be facing so maybe he can if it comes to that. Either way i would've ridden Johnny till he proves he can't do it, then make the safe switch for the sake of continuity and keeping the momentum. And I hate to say it but remember what happened the last time the Jets knocked out a starting QB and a team had to hand the reigns to a backup...But that's none of my business.
RIVALS THIS WEEK
Buffalo Bills (1-1) at Miami Dolphins (1-1) -2.5
So Rex Ryan faces Brady and comes up short again. He gives us the usual huff and puff it's my fault deal almost coming to tears in hopes his fans and players rally around their tough performance. And this is what he does. No harm in it but as a Jets fan I can tell you that the Ryan voodoo is humming like a CatBus right now so hop on and keep stroking away as he purrs!...
I want to thank the Dolphins for validating my gut feeling yet again. Last minute I switched picks to the Jags because to see how the Phins struggled against the Redskins I knew the Jags would find a way to surprise them. There's a ton of pressure on Philbin and Tannehill and there is a sense in the Miami air that the town who was super hyped to watch their Fins finally challenge for the AFC East has given up after one loss. Welcome to Miami.
The key is probably going to come to the weather. Right now it's that time of the year in Miami where every 4pm there is a mini hurricane. If the weather is a factor then it's going to be exactly the kind of game Rex Ryan loves. They've got a better defense and a ton more running talent so if the Dolphins want to keep up the will have to exploit a weak secondary.
JETS THIS WEEK
My how the tables have turned. All the talk of the Jets preemptive death is now shifted to uneasy disbelief. As far as Jets fans we are already booking are tickets to Californi this February and we hope to not see you there! But before we start mapping parade routes and assigning security lets stop and think it through for minute. Yes the Jets defense looks absolutely up to any challenge in the league and yes the Jets offense is surprisingly more efficient than expected but it is still Week 3 and Fitzpatrick has yet to go past 4 games without falling apart.
But there's something about Todd Bowles that gives me hope that he just might be the guy to reign in Fitzpatrick. All I can say is so far so good. I know Jets have never beat Philly but this is a new day in NY.
