Now, I like Han Solo just as much as the next guy. Who can't help but smile when they see good ol' Harrison Ford and Chewie on-screen, and kicking butt. That's where my problem with a young Han Solo movie begins...
Harrison Ford IS Han Solo!
Harrison Ford is probably the biggest reason I love the Original Trilogy so much, (besides nostalgia.) The way he interacts with all the characters is hilarious and a joy to watch. They are making a young Han Solo movie without Harrison Ford you say? Blasphemy! For me, you can't have one without the other. Harrison Ford did an amazing job in the newest Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, and I just can't see him replaced by some teenage heart-throb. Now I know this is all a bunch of me blabbing my own opinion, but let me get to my points.
Why an Obi-Wan movie is a better idea:
Both Ewan McGregor and Alec Guiness played Obi-Wan Kenobi amazingly in different ways. Now I know what you're thinking:
Then why don't you give the young Han Solo movie a chance? The new actor could be great for Han Solo!
Well, I'll tell you why I don't want to give a new actor a chance. In A New Hope, we barely saw Obi-Wan and the complexity of his character before he was slashed away from us! Ewan McGregor was able to play a young version of him and we were able to see his relationship with Anakin Skywalker as Master and Apprentice, making his fight with Vader all the more emotional (of course that is debatable among the fans). Han Solo has been in the last four movies, and we know his character. There isn't mystery surrounding him, he's a Correlian smuggler. I suppose they could show him and Chewie becoming Space-Bros, but that doesn't sound very interesting to me. We've already seen them as Space-Bros. You know what we haven't seen though? What the heck Obi-Wan did for 17 years between the prequel and original trilogies!
The awesome part about this, is that there is already an extremely talented and willing actor to reprise his role as Obi-Wan. Even if you hated the prequels, I think most can agree that Ewan did an excellent job. Also, it's been eleven years since Episode III came out, so he will already look older, and they can maybe give him a bit of grey hair on the sides, depending on when it takes place. Ewan himself has even stated that he would happily return as Obi-Wan. (I believe it's in an interview for Jack the Giant Slayer, but take that with a grain of salt, because I couldn't find the interview).
Just thinking about this becoming a movie gets me excited! There are so many directions they could take this. He could fight the Hutt gangs and bounty hunters *cough* Boba Fett...
Darth Maul could track him down and they could have a dope re-match on Tatooine!
He could fight an elite squadron of Stormtroopers or something sent from Darth Vader. Or, they could have Commander Cody and some clones (now Stormtroopers) that are still alive hunting him - that would also be sweet! They could take this movie in so many awesome directions. I really want to see Ewan McGregor play Obi-Wan again with a director other than George Lucas (no offense, George) and see how he does with a better script. (Again, no offense George; after all I can't complain, you did give us friggin' Star Wars in the first place!).
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Also, if they made both a Han Solo movie and an Obi-Wan movie, i'd be just fine with that! In fact, they should just do that.
