I don't know about you, but The Incredibles 2 has been at the top of my most wanted list for the best part of the last decade - did you know it's been 11 whole years since our favorite superpowered family first blasted onto screens?!

Luckily, the sequel to one of Pixar's most beloved movies is making a triumphant return, with director Brad Bird currently penning a script. But what juicy details can we glean during these early stages of development? Well, Bird recently spoke about the movie during his promotional tour for Tomorrowland, and he divulged some very interesting things indeed...

Going "Somewhere Different"

The incredible Mr. Bird told Coming Soon:

I had a bunch of ideas that I wanted to put in The Incredibles, but they just didn’t fit. Certain ideas fit, but other things make you go, ‘This is great, but I’d have to give up two other things that matter more to me to get this other thing in.’ So there were a pile of ideas left over from ‘The Incredibles,’ but it’s not a big thing.
There were little scenes and things that I was interested in. I wanted to come up with sort of an over-arching idea that connected to the first film that went somewhere different. That’s the one that took a little more time.

Hmmm, so it sounds like Bird will be resurrecting some cutting room floor concepts for the sequel.

Fans will recall that Pixar used some of their leftover footage to make this 2005 animated short Jack-Jack Attack:

Despite only appearing in the movie for a brief period, the roaringly cute Jack-Jack immediately cemented himself as a fan-favorite, so I'm hoping we'll get to see a lot more of him (possibly as a toddler?) this time around. Other stuff on my Incredibles 2 wish list include...

New Costumes

Which also means more Edna!

A Marvel Parody

Okay, so the whole premise of the franchise is essentially a riff off the comic book giant, but after the proliferation of the MCU it would be great to see some jokes about the Avengers.

The Family, All Grown Up!

I'm expecting the narrative to have more of a focus on the children this time; Dash struggling with puberty, Violet moving to college and Jack-Jack, well, causing mayhem.

The Incredibles 2 is estimate to release in 2019, 15 years after the franchise began.
