A lot of us don't want to believe it, but the time will come when Hugh Jackman will decide not to reprise his role as the biggest character in the X-Men Series. Earlier this year, Jackman confirmed that 2017's solo Wolverine film (Wolverine 3) will feature his last performance as the clawed mutant. The news came as a disappointment for X-Men fans, but after playing him in seven X-Men movies, it was bound to happen sometime.
In a recent interview with MTV news (seen above), Hugh Jackman was asked who he think would be a good choice to play Wolverine. While he admitted it was an off-the-cuff suggestion, his suggestion is arguably quite a good one.
“I haven’t really given it a lot of thought. I’ve been asked that question a lot, and I’m always like, ‘I don’t wanna make it too easy on the studio to replace me, you know! I’ve still got one more to do! I’m sure they’re already talking about it, and there’s some actor [they’ve told] ‘shh, keep it quiet but we want you next! He’s younger than me for sure - I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine.”
After starring in this summer's [Mad Max: Fury Road](tag:41445), Tom Hardy is perhaps one of the most hyped actors of the year. Fury Road was arguably his biggest role yet, and the first time he played the lead protagonist in a blockbuster movie.
Hardy's no stranger to the superhero genre either. Three years ago, Hardy played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, his first major film role. Moreover, Hardy was originally set to play Rick Flagg in the anticipated Suicide Squad movie before quitting due to scheduling issues with The Revenant.
Hugh Jackman isn't the first person to eye Hardy for such a big role either. Weeks ago, online bookmaker BoyleSports predicted that Hardy would be the next actor to play James Bond. That's two ambitious predictions for Hardy's career in just one month.
Many are quick to label Hardy as "the next big thing," but will Hardy live up to the hype? The only way to find out is to wait and see.
Who should replace Hugh Jackman?
