Die-hard fans of film -- and specifically of Star Wars -- have long known that the swordfights, mythology, and even several aspects of the film's overall aesthetic serve as a nod to classic Japanese filmmaking. From Darth Vader's armor, right down to C-3PO and R2-D2's blatant nods to Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress, the lore of Star Wars is just as much Eastern as it is Western.

A little while back, Bandai decided to commemorate these references by taking them to the next level and designing an incredible set of figurines that reimagined Boba Fett as a gritty Ronin, as well as modeling Darth Vader even more closely to his inspiration -- the legendary samurai Date Masamune -- into a daunting Samurai General.

But when Bandai announced that its incredible Star Wars model kits would no longer be available to ship to the U.S. (thanks, Hasbro!), all hope seemed lost. If the model kits were out of the question, how would that affect other products?

Luckily, distributor Bluefin (likely by way of parody claim, since the figurines aren't direct replicas) has swooped in like a robed Jedi Knight to deliver these beautiful figurines to fans in the states. The previous “Taisho” Darth Vader and “Ashigaru” Stormtrooper are available to order now, and the upcoming statues are so gorgeous that my wallet is already crying salty, salty Gungan tears. Check them out:
