Although Patrick Stewart isn't expected to appear in X-Men: Apocalypse, this certainly isn't the last we'll be seeing of the older and balder version of Professor Xavier.
While conducting press junkets for his upcoming Pan, Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman revealed Stewart had a sizeable part in his third Wolverine solo movie. While talking with Collider, he revealed:
I’ll be really honest with you, the actual script in its full form we’re up to about Page 60. Obviously there’s a treatment, so it’s not fully done yet, we’re not fully there. Patrick does figure in it that’s for sure. I think it’s a really important relationship but I want to see signs of that quasi-father/son sort of relationship that has not been seen before, and sides of particularly Professor X that have not been seen before. So we have some really, really cool ideas.
This could be an interesting development for Wolverine, a character whose tender side is often hinted at, but rarely fully explored. With talk of this being Jackman's last film as the adamantine-clawed hero before retirement, it would be the perfect opportunity for a heart to heart with his mentor.
Currently, little is known about the still-untitled Wolverine solo film, but rumors are abounding that it will be based on the popular Old Man Logan comic book series. If this is true, it could add extra credence to suggests the final film will explore more of Logan's characters. However, does this mean we're once again heading into the future? Could this solo movie link up with Days of Future Past?
Currently, Wolverine 3 is due out on March 3, 2017, with filming expected to start next year.
