Half-Life 3 has surfaced in news once more following Chet Faliszeck's response to a Q&A session regarding Valve's move into VR. A cheeky audience member asked the man twice whether Half-Life 3 was going to be released as a VR game. Chet responded with simple "no" on both occasions. Whether that means the game is not a VR title or he would have said "no" to any question regarding that game, is entirely up to you!
But the leaked information that we received a few months ago gave us insight into the development studios of Valve. Half-Life 3 is a game. Its been in development for a long time and the story is complete. However, it has suffered intense setbacks, which ultimately boil down to Valve not wanting to release the game at all. Therefore, why wouldn't they just inform the community instead of leaving them all hanging?
Why Won't Valve Give Us News About the State of Half-Life 3?
According to the leak, there's no financial reasoning behind Valve's releasing of Half-Life 3 - they're minted! Additionally, they're also afraid of the potential backlash the community could unleash upon them if the game didn't meet their standards. Take a look at what happened with Mass Effect! But if this is indeed the case, why the never-ending radio silence? Why not come out and tell us that Half-Life 3 will not receive a release date for the next X amount of years. Or that it will never be released and we'll simply have to forget it. Would this incur an even greater backlash? Would gamers rather wait for news, desperately guessing whether their next conference appearance will unveil Half-Life 3?
Personally, if Half-Life 3 really is in the state that the leak describes - under development by a skeleton crew of about ten people - I'd love to hear it and get over it! Though perhaps they'll wait for like 30 years and then release it on to a generation that doesn't care about Half-Life. Perhaps they are planning the perfect moment to give Half-Life 3 a release date! But with the kind of gaming areas that Valve has moved into, I don't think a linear, singleplayer game is anything they're particularly interested in anymore.
Will Half-Life 3 Get A Release Date?
But what about you guys? I wouldn't declare myself as a huge Half-Life fan, even though I love the games! I can live without Half-Life 3! But for those of you that are dying to get some news on it, do you wish Valve would just tell you that the game will not be released? Let us know where you stand!
