Let me begin with thanking Julian Gerdes and Jasmyn Spann for recommending me for the 5 Day challenge. For those who are new to the challenges, please go through the rules:

5 Day Recommendation Challenge:

  • Day 2: Recommend a Cult Movie

  • Day 3: Recommend a TV Series That Ended Before its Time

  • Day 4: Recommend a Movie That Got Critically Panned

  • Day 5: Recommend a Comic Book Movie (that isn't Marvel or DC!)

Post your recommendation as well as why and then tag 5 members of the Moviepilot community to keep the recommendations coming!

Now let’s go to the business. LGBT works a solid sub-genre since it can be worked along with other major genres like drama and comedy. Fucking Amal (Yeah, you heard me!) is such a movie that works as a teen drama than an LGBT movie. Originally Swedish, it was released in US in the name Show Me Love.

Fucking Amal/Show Me Love (1998)

I came around this movie a few months back and I was immensely entertained with it. Even with a sensitive subject under its lines, this movie managed to play out as a coming-of age story of a couple of teenagers and much like any other teen flicks, it was one hell of a blast. It may not have been the movie that I’ve watched back in the 90’s but it sure deserves a recommendation.

Agnes, a lonely girl, is in love with Elin, the popular girl of the school. She desperately tries to show her love, while the latter is involved in fashion and trends. When Elin comes to know about Agnes’ infatuation towards her, she ignores her and things get complicated. All these moments are laced with pure humor and lovable characters. Fucking Amal proved itself that such a sensitive issue can be used in a heart-warming way.

Directed by Lukas Moodysson, Fucking Amal stars Alexandra Dahlström and Rebecka Liljeberg in the lead. With majority of the cast being teenagers and the risk of the subject, it’s undeniable that Moodysson did a great job with it. Even without its comic validity, Fucking Amal is a feel good film that will make you cheer. Now, go on and try it. Hope it won’t disappoint you…

Finally, I nominate David Espinosa, Ashraf Sidd and Stelios Mitrousis...
