Sorry for the late entry, but here it is guys! My fifth and final entry for the [#5 Day Recommendation Challenge](tag:3555492): Recommend a Comic Book Movie that isn't Marvel or DC.

To be perfectly honest, when I first saw this film I wasn't aware that it was based on a comic-book series. I only figured that out after seeing it in theatres, rushing home and doing more research on the flick. Needless to say I absolutely LOVED the film, and to this day it's one of my favorite vampire movies ever (right next to Nosferatu).

30 Days of Night (2007)

30 Days of Night released in 2007 and was based on the comic book series of the same title. Directed by David Slade, the film stars Josh Hartnett, Melissa George and Danny Huston. The title of the film speaks for itself - no huge mystery here. As the story goes, a small town in Alaska is preparing for their annual '30 days of night'. Literally, 30 full days in the heart of winter without sunshine. I'm sure you can guess what kind o insanity ensues when a cast of unfamiliar shadows find their way into the city...

After seeing 30 Days for the first time I was immediately impressed by the casting choices, especially for the vampires. Danny Huston pretty terrifying to begin with, but in this film he absolutely outdoes himself. Now, whenever I see him in anything else, THIS is all I can think about... Doing some more digging after seeing the film, it became apparent just how much the producers of the film did to emulate and stay true to the source material. From casting, to the portrayal of the town to the bleak, muted color palates that make 30 Days of Night such an eerie experience. if you ask me, they absolutely nailed it.

Just like the landscape and setting in which the film takes place, 30 Days of Night is cold, dark and full of atmosphere. You truly get the feeling while watching that you're there in the small town of Barrow, Alaska, sharing this terrifying experience with the city's inhabitants. If you haven't already guessed from the images I'll say it right now; this is NOT a film for the squeamish or the faint of heart. If you live in a small town this film might creep you out a bit more than the average viewer. In which case, you should watch it.

This film is an absolute must see if you haven't already. If you watch this in the day time it will do the story absolutely NO justice, guys. ZERO LIGHTS are recommended for this flick. And f you live in a cold-climate region with lots of snow, this one might be even more enjoyable to you as well ;)
