Despite his many talents, Matt Damon is probably just as famous for being best friends with Ben Affleck as he is for being a celebrated and renowned actor. Being one half of the ultimate celebrity duo means friendship comes before celebrity, well, unless the perfect movie comes along.

Since growing up together and becoming Oscar-winning screenwriters for their work on Good Will Hunting, the pair has remained extremely close while also working together on Project Greenlight and Damon's charity

While talking to NY Daily News about his upcoming sci-fi survival film, The Martian, Matt Damon revealed that he'd be willing to do more than survive on Mars and bring Jason Bourne back to the big screen if the opportunity came along. Damon stated in the interview he might even be willing to don a mask familiar to his friend Ben, if the right director offered it, that is.

Being a longtime fan of the comic books, Damon says he'd be happy to pick up where Ben Affleck left off and play Daredevil! He stated his missed his opportunity for the 2003 movie because it just didn't feel right. Damon said:

"For us it was always Daredevil. That's the comic we read when we were kids, but when that one came along I chickened out, because I couldn't tell. I hadn't seen the director (Mark Steven Johnson's) work and I didn't know. So I just said, 'No.' Ben was like, 'I gotta do it.'"

After seeing the final product I think most of us can agree that Matt Damon made the right decision. Even he stated that he didn't "think Ben was ultimately very proud of it."

Personally, I think Matt Damon could be good in a slightly weathered, mature superhero role, especially since he already has such an emotional tie to the character. And with Ben Affleck getting his second chance at playing a superhero with the upcoming Batman v Superman, I can't imagine there would be any hard feelings.

So what would it take for Matt to get on board with playing the blind vigilante? The right director -- Christopher Nolan to be specific. Damon told the interviewer:

"If Chris Nolan came up to me and said, 'I want to do Daredevil,' I would be in."

As cool as that might be, I don't think Christopher Nolan will be cutting his superhero movie ties with Warner Bros. anytime soon to venture into a Marvel movie.

And in any case, I'm pretty happy with our current Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) on the Daredevil series on Netflix. Probably best we let Cox flesh out the character and hope there's room for him to join the MCU on the silver screen.
