I recently got the chance to interview Jon Bernthal about his role in the Denis Villeneuve-directed Sicario, due in theaters on October 2nd. Of course, while I had his attention, I couldn't resist asking him about his upcoming role in season 2 of Daredevil as Frank Castle/The Punisher.
While he couldn't give away too many details (we know how closely Marvel guards its secrets under lock and key), he still made it clear that he understands how important the role is, both for himself and for fans:
I mean, you know Marvel, I can’t say anything. But look, I look at it as a huge honor and I really want to get this right. It means a lot to a lot of people out there. It means a lot to me. I’m aware of the standards of comics, and there have been many iterations of him, and I feel like I have a responsibility to do this as best as I possibly can.
Bernthal is a very earnest actor that throws himself into every role. Fans should rest assured that when Marvel cast him as the complicated, conflicted Frank Castle, they absolutely nailed it. And hearing him speak about the responsibility he has to fans to get it right makes me even more certain that he's going to knock the role out of the park.
What about you?
Daredevil season 2 returns to Netflix in April 2016.
