Prometheus sucked. There I said it. I grew up with the Alien series, the same as any and every 80's baby, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that some of us have a personal connection to the franchise. I gave Prometheus a chance like I gave part 3, Resurrection and Alien vs Predator a chance and I know this is something that MANY of us can agree on. It blew more chunks than Kane just before the Alien popped out.
Now we as fans are being forced into accepting that Prometheus is part of the Aliens Universe, a prequel so to speak. I for one am not happy about the decision and would rather build off the success of Creative Assembly's Alien: Isolation, now coming up on its one year anniversary of its release.
Also I'm not fond of Neill Blomkamp's Alien designs or idea to bring back the original cast somehow forgoing canon (if that is what they inevitably do). I'm not saying it doesn't look cool or isn't a bad idea or they can't figure out a clever way to bring Ellen Ripley and Hicks back, I'm just saying I'm not interested in that story line anymore especially knowing how good Alien: Isolation is and how perfect of an idea it was to explore Ripely's daughter life. You see crazy ideas and awesome character designs all over the net and I feel like it's been way over hyped.
Isolation is the proper prequel that takes the franchise in a fresh direction while maintaining a link to the past. It also nails the whole "retro-space" feel. Not only did it breathe new life into the series but it also helped pave a new direction for survival horror video games and the use of artificial intelligence within.
Alien: Isolation is the real reason we are even still talking about the franchise. If you haven't played it you're missing out. Plain and simple. It is one of the best games of the previous year and is a perfect entrant into the Alien universe and franchise. At this point you have to put it into your viewing schedule when experiencing Aliens. I'd even go as far as to tell you skip Alien Resurrection and just play Isolation. I personally played the game from day one and followed a lot of the talk online and despite word of criticism, I never ran into anyone that did not love the game.
There's a whole new fresh world waiting to be explored and it's right under our noses. Amanda Ripley lives to be past 80 so you know she must have had plenty more encounters with the Xenomorphs. So instead of trying to bring back the dead, let Ellen and Dwayne rest in peace. I mean like they already brought Ellen back and that was just bad all around. I'm curious to know if Ridley Scott or Blomkamp played Alien Isolation? I like many am solely waiting for an Alien Isolation sequel hopefully in video game format but I also wouldn't mind film.
Don't get me wrong I love Sigourney Weaver, I love Michael Biehn and I admit Aliens 3 and Resurrection were train wrecks (less Alien 3) and to see a redo would probably be best for everyone. And when Scott and Blomkamp bring their adaptation to life I'm sure it will be fantastic. I just want to make sure I do my part and voice my support for more Alien: Isolation so the story of Amanda Ripley lives on!
