It turns out that Robert Englund - the original and best Freddy Krueger - is a purist just like a whole bunch of horror fans. The horror icon recently revealed that he has very definite ideas about further Nightmare on Elm Street remakes... but he really, really wants to come back as Freddy for a decent sequel or prequel:

"You don’t do remakes! I would do Freddy 9, you know? Or I would do Freddy vs Michael Myers. Or I would do a prequel."

I'm totally down for any of these ideas. His next scheme would also be a riotous comedy-horror mishmash... do you think that this concept would work nowadays?

"Well, I’d like to see Nightmare in the Hood! I would! I think it’d be really interesting to do a line of, like, retro '80s hip hop ones and get a black actor to play Freddy and all the kids are, like, hip hop. Just do it the same!"

Maybe Freddy could have his own amusingly cringeable rap like Warwick Davis did in Leprechaun 5: Lep in the Hood?

I hope that we do get Robert Englund back as Freddy at some point - in whatever form, all of his ideas on the topic would be great fun - as he not only looks the part, but truly understands the role of Freddy Krueger. In the same interview, he said of Freddy:

"You can imagine Freddy to be anything you want. My theory is the word “child killer,” there’s something darkly…darkly poetic about that. It’s a very frightening phrase. Child killer! That should be enough. And I think there’s something symbolic about being a child killer."
"He kills children because children are their future and there’s no place for Freddy in the future. And it’s revenge on the parents! It’s the most painful thing a parent can do is to lose a child before they die. I mean, I can’t imagine how anybody…how any adults or parents survive that, the death of a child. So that’s nasty enough!"

Yup, Robert Englund totally gets it. Let's hope that he is involved in another Nightmare on Elm Street project.

Did you guys like the 2010 remake or did it make you want to go hide in a boiler room sharpening the knives on your hands?
