Through the years, the sci-fi genre has given us some incredibly imaginative spacecrafts. We've put together a list of the most iconic spaceships from TV and movies. We really hope you enjoy reading about them and don't forget to let us know your favorite in the comments section!

(Please note that this list is in no particular order!)

The USS Enterprise NCC - 1701 - D

42 decks of pure awesomeness, this Galaxy Class Starship ushered in a whole new wave of Star Trek fans, playing a huge part in the revival of the franchise, which continues to be hugely popular. Fans even went on to build sites like to connect through their love of the franchise (and the Enterprise!). The iconic saucer was able to separate from the rest of the body, allowing the civilians to escape while the crew turned back to fight.

Warning: Trigger happy Klingon at tactical.

The iconic Firefly-class Starship that appeared in the cult classic, Firefly, was a small smuggling vessel used by its crew to perform illegal activities throughout the galaxy. While not having the reputation of being the fastest or prettiest ship out there, its advantages come in the form of its ruggedness, ease of repair and the countless little cubby holes that make it an ideal smuggling ship.

Millennium Falcon

One of the most iconic ships in the Star Wars franchise, it is known as one of the fastest ships in the galaxy, able to make the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs. With incredibly fast engines, quad cannons both above and below and sensor capabilities that go beyond a ship of that size, the Falcon really is the complete package.

Slave I

The iconic ship of the bounty hunter Jango Fett and later on, Boba Fett. The Slave I is a heavily modified Firespray class starship complete with proton torpedoes, sensor shielding, and improved sensor array and even a small tractor beam to latch onto its prey.

Borg Cube

Borg Cubes are immense in size, measuring over three kilometers across and an internal volume of 27 cubic kilometers. Borg ships are so vast and are capable of taking on an armada alone. Borg cubes are typically manned by thousands of drones, ranging from 5,000 to 129,000 drones.

The Battlestar Galactica

The Galactica type Battlestar is a Colonial capital ship that combines the functions of both a battleship and an aircraft carrier. The Galactica is a space faring leviathan over 4700 feet long, featuring powerful gun batteries, point defense turrets and thousands of Viper fighter craft.

The Milano is the ship owned by Peter Quill a.k.a. Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. Named after Quill’s childhood crush, Alyssa Milano. The Milano is the only ship in the Ravager fleet that’s equipped with a cassette player and also the only ship to infiltrate the Dark Aster during the battle over Xandar.

The Klingon Bird-of-Prey is one of the most iconic ships in Star Trek after the Enterprise. Equipped with the Klingon Empire’s best weapons and soldiers, they were typically assigned to peaceful missions, but able to be battle ready instantly.

Discovery One

USSC Discovery One is the famous space craft that appears in The Space Odyssey series. Operated, in part, by the iconic HAL 9000 AI. Discovery is 140 meters in length and propelled by a nuclear-powered magnetoplasmadynamic drive. 80 meters of structure separate the reactor from the great sphere, which is the crew habitation module.

Heart of Gold

The Heart of Gold which appears in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was the first spaceship to use the Infinite Improbability Drive. The ship has a unique design that is impractical and difficult, yet exciting and purposeful, so that the designers weren’t miserable designing a boring ship. The ship is also outfitted with the latest Genuine People Personalities, this results in all the doors having a sunny and cheerful disposition, whereas Marvin the Paranoid Android comes with an experimental depressing disposition.

The Roger Young

Corvette Transport Number 176, a.k.a. The Rodger Young from the film Starship Troopers, was one of the few ships that managed to survive the epic Battle of Klendathu with only minor damage. Equipped to bring in the full force of Mobile Infantry, the Roger Young came equipped with full compliments of Mobile Infantry troops and Military Intelligence officers, DR-4 Viking Dropships and DR-4 Skyhook Landing Boats to get the troops wherever they needed to be. The Roger Young later was destroyed during the Invasion of planet P when a plasma burst tore the ship in two.
