In reality, Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Anthony Mackie is playing Sam Wilson, a.k.a. Falcon, previous sidekick to Captain America, now a member of the Avengers. But in his perfect world, Mackie would be tackling the role of a very different superhero.
At Salt Lake City Comic Con, Mackie was asked during his panel which superhero he'd switch places with, if any. His answer was immediate:
"I would switch with Mark Ruffalo. I grew up a Hulk fan. When I was kid, Lou Ferrigno was my dude! I used to dress up in green and try and hit people."
But, he joked, his motivations behind playing the big, green, mean machine might not be quite as honorable as those of, say, his buddy Steve Rogers if he were in the same position. Can you guess what they are?
(Spoilers: Ladies. It's about getting the ladies.)
"It's the Hulk! Imagine a Hulk coming up to you, 'Hey, baby, what's your phone number?' Black Widow could be with anybody in the universe. And she got with the Hulk!"
While I'm not quite sure Mackie fully gets Natasha Romanoff's reasons for being attracted to Bruce Banner, it's still always a great time to see Mackie holding court during a panel or press conference. He's always so candid and off-the-cuff, and while that's gotten him in trouble from time to time, in a world of cookie cutter interview answers, I welcome Mackie's irreverence and his joy about being part of the MCU.
How about you? If you could be one of the MCU superheroes, who would you be and why?
