If you haven't already heard, recording artist, FKA twigs, and Twilight actor, Robert Pattinson, are engaged! Unfortunately, instead of being able to enjoy their engagement and spend their days promoting their respective works, the pair have been battling an onslaught of Internet hate towards their relationship.

While talking to NME about his upcoming movie, Life, the interview briefly touched on Pattinson's relationship with Twigs and how it affects them. FKA twigs herself has previously responded to the comments on her Twitter page stating:

In regard to the hate and racial slurs hurled toward Twigs since being in a relationship with the actor, Pattinson, who is usually pretty quiet about his private life, opened up about his anger towards the hurtful comments to NME:

"I was talking to my dad about this and I bet him that if he looked up Nelson Mandela's funeral on YouTube, the first comment would be a racist one. And it was, with like a million upvotes. What I don't get is why."

He might not understand exactly why people feel compelled to speak negatively about his fiancée, he says that it must just be the mentality of Internet commenters in general.

"I think it's because most normal people are not commenters – I've never met anyone who's left a comment on anything. It's just demons who live in basements. You have this weird thing where you end up trying to fight against this faceless blob, where the more you hate it, the bigger it gets, because it's all in your head."

Even though he uses this thinking to keep his anger at bay, sometimes knowing not to feed the beast still isn't enough to keep you from reaching your hand out for more. Pattinson went on to say that he sometimes faces a "weird compulsion" to "reinforce [his] negative opinion of [himself]," saying:

"I go through periods where I don’t do it at all and feel glorious! Then I’ll fall back into this pit. It really does affect you, and it all comes from some moron sitting on a comment board. It’s always that person who’s needling away at you, who you either want to destroy, or convince them to love you."

Although I might not fully agree on his stance against commenters (for the most part I really enjoy interacting with Moviepilot commenters!), especially in regards to all commenters living in basements, I can definitely see where he's coming from.

Reading even one personal jab about yourself, however unfounded and distorted, is still hard to tune out. Now imagine reading offensive and hurtful things being said about someone you love. Rob has the right to be upset.

In the end, I hope he's just able to silence the cruel words of the haters and enjoy his pending nuptials and bask in the loving glow of the marvelously strange and talented FKA twigs.

The two seem incredibly happy together, so that's all that really matters. Plus, is there any other couple out there who can rock full-body sparkles as well as these two can? I doubt it.

Robert Pattinson's new movie, Life, about Dennis Stock, the photographer famous for his friendship and work with James Dean, will be released in the U.S. on December 4, 2015.
