The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going stronger than ever with both Ant-Man and Avengers: Age of Ultron both taking top places in the box office takings this year. However these two films have ended the second phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which can mean only one thing! The first film from Marvel next year, Captain America: Civil War, kicks off the third phase of Marvel's Cinematic Universe. With 10 films over the next 4 years already announced covering the third phase there are many possibilities on which characters could be brought into the highly successful franchise. This article will be looking at five female superheroes from Marvel Comics that could help balance out the genders of the Cinematic Universe.

Valkyrie

Valkyrie MUST appear in the Thor: Ragnarok. You may be asking yourself why? The answer is simple, Ragnarok is the entire point of Valkyrie's mission. Her mission is to collect the spirits/souls of the best warriors throughout history at the point of their deaths. She is not just some deranged evil soul collecting wench, granted she collects souls but only to form an army with for the day Asgard falls, aka - Ragnarok. This is not just something made up in Marvel, Valkyries are genuinely part of Norse mythology tasked with the same job of collecting fallen warriors. Marvel's Valkyrie is super strong and has incredible endurance, so she would be a great ally to Thor in the final battle of Asgard. Also like Thor she has her own personal weapn named Dragonfang. Dragonfang is a sword which is said to be carved from the tooth of an extra-dimensional dragon. But something she does have that Thor does not is a mighty stead called Aragorn, which is a winged horse that was given to her by Black Knight. If they choose not to include Valkyrie in the film they will not only be ignoring Norse mythology, on which all of Thor's world is based, but they will also be ignoring a brilliant chance to bring in a hard hitting female character.

Phyla-Vell

Here is a great contender to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. First off let us all take a moment to appreciate how truly badass she looks! Admit it, if you were in a bar with this woman and she told you "You're getting the next round." you are not going to argue with her. Secondly, if they added her to the next GotG installment, they would be able to massively increase the amount of fire the Gaurdians take! She actually has the ability to absorb energy based attacks and return them as energy blasts. Additionally she is an extremely strong and is proficient fighter with the ability to fly. At one point she also possessed the Quantum Bands which granted her with the ability to produce solid energy constructs, travel through space and protected her from telepathy. The reason she should enter the MCU is because while they will most likely have a focus on Gamora Vs. Nebula in GotG2, they will be able to have her fighting alongside the boys while Gamora deals with her sister. Also she would increase the female number on the team.

Monica Rambeau

This one is simple, Marvel could kill two birds with one stone in an origin story. If Marvel do decide to have Carol Danvers survive an alien explosion and gain her superpowers, they could have Monica act as a supporting character in the film and gain powers at the same time. The reason why they can get away with this is due to Monica gaining her powers through an explosion to stop a secret weapon being created. It should also be noted that like Carol being in the Air Force, Monica was a part of the Harbor Control when she received her powers. The added bonus to this altered origin story to include both would be even more plausible as both Monica and Carol have similar abilities. Carol has the ability to absorb energy and redirect it, Monica has the ability to turn into any energy form and gain all its properties. So with a few tweaks here and there, they could pull off a double female hitter with one movie. Monica has also had dozens of aliases over her superhero career, including Captain Marvel, so they would have plenty to choose from as Captain Marvel is taken by Carol. So if Marvel are planning to make a literal dent in the MCU with their first female led Superhero film, Monica could add some extra power to the punch.

Screaming Mimi/Songbird

Now this character is a potential character to appear in Spider-Man. Some of you may be scratching your head thinking I am totally nuts, to which you are completely correct. However, while Marvel and Sony have agreed for Marvel to use Spider-Man no other characters have been mentioned to be included in the deal. This means Marvel may be forced to look else where to find worthy characters to go up against the web-slinger outside his usual foes. Songbird would be a good option as she started as a villain only to become a hero. So Screaming Mimi could be a brilliant villain for Spider-Man to face off against only for him to teach her crime is not the way by the end of the film. She could then take up the title Songbird and would be able to fill in the space Blackcat would normally take. I am sure by her name you have guess she has vocal based abilities, but she has more than just a super sonic screech at her disposal. Depending on the note she emits the victim will suffer certain effects. Low C causes low level anxiety and shortness of breath, D causes high level anxiety and panic attacks, E causes dizziness and vertigo, F causes nausea and stomach cramping, G causes severe headaches and fatigue, A causes blindness, B causes euphoria and eventual stupor, and high C causes the listener to visually hallucinate. If she rapidly oscillates between two notes she can also combine the effects. She can also create 3D sound/mass constructs which she shapes and commands mentally. Aside from her golden vocals, she is also a wrestler, meaning she is not all about grace and elegance in a fight, she is more for the direct hit and all out brawl.

Ms. Marvel

Kamala Khan took the mantel of Ms. Marvel up after Carol Danvers. So instantly we have an option of how she could fit in with the 2018 Captain Marvel movie. However the other way she can work in MCU phase 3 is with the Inhumans. Kamala Khan discovered after taking up the name Ms. Marvel that she was one of several humans who are of Inhuman heritage. So if Marvel are clever they could have Kamala Khan witness Carol's acts in her movie and in a post-credit scene discover her powers. Then in the Inhumans film she could actually be the main character giving the Inhumans on the moon a reason to come to earth only to discover she is playing superhero as Ms. Marvel. Marvel are also most likely looking for a way to bring her into the MCU once Carol has entered simply due to the high popularity the character has already gained through the comics, despite being relatively new. An extra treat for Marvel with the new Ms. Marvel is her powers. She has a healing factor but mainly has the power of Morhphogenetics. She can literally do everything Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four can do. Where his character is off limits Kamala is their only option to have a hero with the power to stretch, expand and alter their body.
