Hotel Transylvania 2 is a charming, cute film, with just about the cutest child in all of animated movie history. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed the first outing of this new franchise. So I went into the sequel with hopes for at least a movie just as good. And while it didn't live up to the first in my opinion, I still found myself smiling the whole way through.
Dennis, or Denissovitch, is the standout of the movie for sure. His cute little face and adorable voice is just so stinking cute as he idolizes his Grandpire. (Grandpa and Vampire. Come on it's obvious.) Dennis was definitely a joy to watch. And I'm excited to see where they go with him for the inevitable sequel.
Some things however, didn't work as well. Like the sidelining of Mavis in this film when she was such a big part of the first. And I felt the movie rushed a few things I would have loved to see more of. Like maybe more of Johnny and Mavis' wedding? More of them parenting their own child? Less of the "Drac pack" and more of the Dracula family? Perhaps they will address some of this in the third installment. Only time will tell.
But regardless, I enjoyed this movie a lot. Though sadly not as much as the first. If you have kids, I definitely advise you to take them to see it. They'll love it. And if you don't have kids and are just looking for a good night out at the movies, you could skip this one. Unless you were a fan of the original there's nothing really new here to make you pay full ticket price for it. Maybe wait for either Netflix or Redbox.
So that's my review of Hotel Transylvania 2. Let me know what you thought in the comments below. Have a spooktastic day.
