Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, a Werewolf, and the Invisible Man—all together roaming the creepy and poorly lit hallways of a mysterious hotel! The occupants are monsters, and the hotel staff are the brains-eating undead—no human dares to step foot in the terrifying horror house that is... Hotel Transylvania!
That sounds like the description of a scary, R-rated horror film doesn't it? Kids under the age of 17 wouldn't be allowed to see this movie, nor would they even be able to stomach it!
But what you just read was not the summary of some Crimson Peak-type horror fest, it was the premise of Hotel Transylvania, the PG rated animated fantasy comedy from the minds of Adam Sandler and Sony Pictures Animation!
The story goes that Dracula (Adam Sandler) builds and designs a five star hotel for monsters to get away from humans. A huge human hater, Dracula does everything he can to keep the hotel hidden from humans, and to keep his teenage daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) away from the human villages.
Despite having a cast full of creatures you'd usually see occupying black lagoons and cursed tombs, Hotel Transylvania is 100% kid-friendly. And while I enjoy the funny tone of HT, it kind of seems like a missed opportunity to not have Dracula and his gang of monstrous monsters in a true horror film together—just imagine how freaky that would be!
Well you won't have to imagine too hard any longer! The YouTube channel CineMash decided to take the happy-go-lucky Hotel Transylvania and transform it into a bonafide horror flick! You can check out 'If Hotel Transylvania Was A Horror Film' below—warning: don't bring your easily frightened children!
I've got to say, now I really want a horror-version of Hotel Transylvania! A hotel occupied by Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy? That's the premise of the perfect monster movie! Oh well, guess I'll just have to watch Monster Squad on Netflix for now.
