Game of Thrones is one of the most popular TV shows and book series' ever, with millions of die-hard fans, of both the books and the TV show, worldwide. With Season 5 just finished, fans are eagerly waiting for the time to pass quickly, so that they can get some more awesomeness of the show.

Though Season 6 of the show is almost a year away, there's a brilliant piece of news for all you Game of Thrones fans to make the waiting easier (or harder, depends on your reaction). George R.R. Martin has revealed that the series might be getting its own movie!

I KNOW RIGHT!? How awesome is that! After enjoying a successful year at the Emmy's and celebrating it, Martin revealed the news to British newspaper Daily Star on Sunday:

There will be a movie but I will not be involved. I have too much to do. That is something HBO and the DB Weiss and David Beioff are dealing with. I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do."

"The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don’t write faster.”

Its a little satisfying to hear that the author is totally focused on finishing the sixth instalment in the series, titled The Winds of Winter. Looks like Winter is finally coming to Westeros (about time)!

It gets even better. Sources say that even though there is a large number of possible stories they could explore, they have something in mind which explores the history before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire take place.

“With the Game Of Thrones universe there is much rich material and no constraints on when that story will take place. They are looking at dipping back in time during certain periods of the series, which could be examined as a one off plot. That means that some of the big characters who fans have seen die on screen could be resurrected such as Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark, Oberyn Martell The Red Viper – and Ned Stark.

Sounds awesome. Hope they keep the cast same; Sean Bean was an excellent Ned Stark. The question remains though...

Which storyline (or time period in history) will they explore?

There are plenty of storylines they could follow, including:

  • History of the Night's Watch
  • First Men vs White Walkers, and the construction of The Wall
  • The coming of the Dragons

Although all these would be suitable choices, the one I personally want to see is Robert Baratheon's Rebellion against the Targaryen Rule. Why? Well... This is THE most relevant storyline to the TV series, and is constantly referred to.

The possibilities for this are amazing. We will see more of the friendship between Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark, the reign of the Mad King, and maybe even the origins of characters like Jon Snow. And of course, the famous Battle of the Trident, one of the biggest wars The Seven Kingdoms ever saw!

However, the movie will be created only after the show is finished, so that might take some time. Show writer David Beioff also commented on the rumour about the show running for 10 Seasons...

“No way in hell because we know what the end is and we’re rapidly approaching it.”

Looks like they will be sticking to the original plan for 7-8 Seasons, which means that Season 6 will be full of drama, surprises, and action, as it draws closer to the end! I personally cannot wait for the show ahead, and the movie sounds like it might be even better!
