I work with watercolour and gouache on paper and sometimes on canvas. I hope you enjoy it
Villains! they are surround us... Fortunately Batman is here to protect us!. This illustration I made it with watercolour and gouache... I love comics!
In this painting I used an evocative object of power (throne), in which the character is resting, he is doing a pose with his hand simulating to hold some object of power (Orb), used for the characters who are sitting on thrones.
It is an appropriation of the frame “Apparition of Saint Michael at the Castle of Saint’ Angelo” from the famous Saint Michael’s retable painted by the Gothic Catalan artist Jaume Huguet. The idea of this appropriation is overlap two characters whose social function is very similar. Both, Batman and the Pope, represent supernatural powers and execute mystic forces in order to maintain a social balance (Status Quo).
Another appropriation of the retable “Virgin of the angels” painted by another Gothic Catalan artist Pere Serra. In my investigation of the symbolic universes, I could conclude that the concept of Mother Mary is connected with the wonder woman as an adaptation of the concepts of "the mother", and the “powerful woman” besides, as an agent of the honesty and especially the truth, she is the mediator between God and the humans.
I've always shown interest in the characters created from darkness and mysterious ideas. In some cases these characters appear just as apposition and they are considered as enemies of God, sometimes even without evidence about the supposedly evil that lives into them, besides, the representations of these characters are considered as invocation and evocation of the “evil”. In this representation I used the Baphomet image mixed with some very common and familiar symbols of the popular culture. I took as a focus of inspiration some works from an American artist named Alex Grey, who has dedicated his art work to the meditation and mysticism.
A little riddle... In the middle of this image you can see Darth Vader but he has three faces...
Something that I like to do in my artist work is the construction of the symbolic distortions, which sometimes comes as a product of the poor social view mass media have. In this painting, the character is stripped of his power objects (the Totem on his hands) and his power poses (In this case is a common pose of the American shaman. This pose is used to think and to solve problems).
