Fans of the 2007 Disney film Enchanted will be excited today to hear that Disney is finally moving forward on the long awaited sequel! Collider has reported that after announcing an Enchanted sequel back in 2010, progress is now moving full steam ahead.
The film will be directed by Anne Fletcher (27 Dresses and Step Up), and Collider reports that the studio is currently in the process of writing and editing the script, in the hopes that it is close to being greenlit. In addition to all of this news, it has also been reported that the film is currently working under the title Disenchanted.
Unfortunately, no details have emerged about what we can expect from the plot of Disenchanted, and it remains unclear whether or not any of the cast of Enchanted will return for the sequel. The original cast of Enchanted was star-studded, and included American Hustle's Amy Adams, Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon, [Grey's Anatomy](tag:200746)'s Patrick Dempsey, Frozen's Idina Menzel, and [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](tag:203942)'s James Marsden.
When Disney's part-animated, part-live action film Enchanted was released in 2007 it was a moderate hit for the studio, bringing in over $340 million worldwide, and receiving three Best Original Song nominations at the Academy Awards. The film told the fish-out-of-water story of Princess-to-be Giselle (Adams), and her banishment to New York City by the evil Queen Narissa (Sarandon), where she falls in love with a cynical divorce lawyer (Dempsey). Despite being a Disney film, the movie parodied many Disney animated feature films of days past, as well as openly paying homage to them.
