Mark Wahlberg was raised Catholic in Boston, so I'm sure that he was thrilled to have the opportunity to give a speech live and in front of the Pope (not to mention millions of other people). He took the opportunity to try to ask the Holy Father for forgiveness, as his career has led him to create some fairly inappropriate films; most notably, Wahlberg felt he needed a pardon for the movie Ted.
Check out an excerpt from the speech below:
"Holy Father please forgive me," Wahlberg said to the Pope. "I've always hoped that the good Lord has a sense of humor when it comes and pertains to many of the movies that I’ve made."
Working on a movie that involves a Teddy Bear that fornicates, does drugs, and drinks alcohol in excess was probably not what the Pope envisioned as the type of thing he'd have to excuse, but I think he has the type of humor and self-awareness that would make him "get" it.
