Comic book movies have been blockbuster, must see movies for years now. Hits like X-Men, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel and the entire Marvel Cinema Universe have brought nerd culture into the main stream and it seems that every kind of person in the world can be a fan of these movies. Goths, jocks, mothers, fathers, kids, adults; this genre has a wide spread demographic. But the comic book world stretches far more than just what DC and Marvel have to offer and the same goes for comic book movies. One of the best of these movies and my recommendation is based on a 6 volume graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O'Malley:
Scott Pilgrim VS The World
For those unfamiliar with either the comics or the movie, Scott Pilgrim is an underachieving bass playing in a local Toronto band, Sex Bob-Omb. One day, Scott meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers. But in order for the two to be together, Scott must defeat her 7 evil-exes.
Despite making a some creative changes between the book and movie (like almost every other book inspired movie), Scott Pilgrim VS The World really did the comics justice.
The movie pays homage for the comics plenty of times
Also, much like the comics, the movie has a blend of video game features within the fight sequences.
And in between all the action, let's not forget the humorous charm of the movie as well
This movie has lots of subtleties incorporated into almost every scene. From the use of X's, to the numbers in the background leading up to the next evil ex; there is always something new to look for every time you watch and rewatch this movie. Not to mention the loaded cast: Michael Cera (Superbad, Arrested Development), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Sky High, Live Free Die Hard), Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Into The Woods), Aubrey Plaza (Life After Beth, Parks and Recreation), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Arrow), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street, United States of Tara), and even Chris Evans (Fantastic Four - 2005, Captain America). If you want a movie with a unique style, clever cinematic choices and pure entertainment, Scott Pilgrim VS The World is a perfect choice.
