It's hard to believe that it's already been twenty years since Cher, Dionne and Tai hit our screens as the lovably ditzy girls in Beverly Hills. The re-imagining of Jane Austen's classic "Emma" was a huge '90s hit, spawning catchphrases that are still (occasionally, and often ironically) used today, and convincing teens that knee high socks looked good. In my mind, Alicia Silverstone is always going to be a bubble-gum-chewing teen in ridiculously co-ordinated outfits... but in the real world, her birthday this Saturday is the last before the big 4-0.

So in honor of her 39th birthday (and the Internet's love affair with making people feel old), let's have a look at where Alicia and the rest of the Clueless cast are today.

Alicia Silverstone (Cher)

The undisputed star of the film, Alicia was one of the biggest names in showbiz in 1995. She was on magazine covers, signed huge contracts, and it seemed like she would be an A-lister for years to come.

Instead, she seems to have dropped off the radar. Despite continuing to work regularly (including three films last year: Jungle Shuffle, Angels in Stardust and HR), she hasn't appeared in any really big movies for a long time.

Before you feel bad for her though, it seems like she's not exactly mourning the loss of fame. Since the late '90s, she's been actively spending less time looking for those huge roles, and more time trying to change the world. A committed vegan and animal rights activist, she runs a website (The Kind Life) and has published two related books (The Kind Diet and The Kind Mama) which were both best-sellers. She's also very involved with PETA, owns four rescue dogs, and is happily married to Christopher Jarecki.

Stacey Dash (Dion)

After starring in Clueless as Dionne, Cher's best friend, Stacey Dash went on to star in the spin-off TV series of the same name for two years. Since then, she's been working solidly, but like Silverstone, hasn't had another big hit. She's been stuck with smaller roles and parts in unsuccessful shows, and even appeared on a reality show Celebrity Circus - a move usually used to try and bolster a failing career.

Sadly, Dash hasn't had much more luck in her personal life. She's been divorced three times, and was judged for dating a man much younger than her in 2014. On top of that, she received a vast amount of criticism for her support of Mitt Romney. However, it's not all bad news for the star, as she recently joined Fox News as a contributor, and has spoken about being happy to spend more time with her children.

Brittany Murphy (Tai)

Everybody knows the sad story of what happened to Brittany Murphy after Clueless. Murphy had a successful acting career, starring in popular films such as 8 Mile and Sin City well as appearing on Broadway. She also modeled, and sang, and was happily married to screenwriter Simon Monjack.

However, she was dogged by persistent rumors of cocaine addiction, and was found dead in her home in 2009. While the official cause of death was pneumonia, rumors about abusing prescription medicine abound, not helped by a tacky Lifetime movie about her released last year. No matter the circumstances, the loss of such a bright star at so young an age is tragic. She had a promising career, a loving husband and a sparkling personality, and her many fans still mourn her passing.

Paul Rudd (Josh)

Rudd, who played the love interest/step brother (which isn't anywhere near as creepy as it sounds), is by far the most successful Clueless alum. Appearing in huge hits like FRIENDS, Anchorman, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Wet Hot American Summer, Knocked Up and many (many) more, Rudd is a comedic powerhouse. Most recently, he joined the Marvel cinematic family in Ant-Man, and will be returning for Captain America: Civil War.

He's just as successful in his personal life, married for over ten years with two children, and still managing to keep his family life private.

Donald Faison (Murray)

Faison, who played Dionne's boyfriend Murray, is another comedy star who continues to do well post-Clueless. Best known for his starring role as Turk in Scrubs, he has also done voice work for Robot Chicken, The Boondocks, American Dad and Family Guy. Most recently he starred in the TV series The Exes.

Elisa Donovan (Amber)

Elisa Donovan was catapulted to fame with Clueless- her third ever role!- and while she has yet to do anything else quite so big, she's doing just fine. She had a short role in Beverly Hills 90210, as well as starring in the Clueless TV series, and in Sabrina The Teenage Witch. More recently she was the star of In Gayle We Trust, and appears in some smaller films.
