In what turns out to be the best news I've heard all day, ABC has bought a pilot for a new Marvel sitcom. Marvel and ABC will continue their wonderful partnership that has, so far, brought us the powerful action dramas Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. This time, however, Marvel is taking a different stance as they create a half-hour single camera comedy series. The show has such a unique premise - the likes of which we've never even thought of before - that it is sure to be a hit.
What is the show about?
The new Marvel show, currently titled Damage Control, will follow a clean up crew. Wait, what? You read that right, this new comedy will show what it's like for this special group of people to clean up after superheroes. This is the crew responsible for cleaning up New York after the invasion, dispose of all the AI parts scattered all over the world from the Ultron battle, wipe up the streets near Wakanda after the Hulk's rampage, and so much more. From what the Variety reports, "According to the series description, the Marvel cleaning crew specializes in dealing with the aftermath of the unique fallout from superhero conflicts."
What we know so far
Aside from the basic premise of the show, we also have some information regarding who is in charge of creating the soon-to-be hit comedy. The show is in contention with creator Ben Karlin, who is known for his work with The Daily Show and Modern Family. According to various reports, the sitcom will focus on the overworked and underpaid team that is responsible for cleaning up after our favorite superheroes (they probably don't like the Avengers all that much). The network, ABC, bought a half-hour script and the project has landed a pilot commitment.
Damage Control isn't the only new ABC-Marvel show being developed, with the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off, Marvel's Most Wanted, starring Mockingbird having its pilot already ordered earlier in the year, and a super secret project being created by John Ridley, known for his work on American Crime.
Well, that's all we know for now! I for one am very excited for the prospect of a new Marvel show. If the comedy in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is any indicator, then Damage Control should be the sitcom to watch soon!
