Before Donald Glover, there was Danny Glover - arguably most known for his role alongside Mel Gibson in the Lethal Weapon movies. What if I were to tell you that Warner Bros was going to follow-up rebooting the Rush Hour movies as a TV series by doing the same with Lethal Weapon?
The source material apparently isn't "too old for this shit" and should reboot nicely into a TV series.
Following the same model that they went with for Rush Hour, Lethal Weapon will be a fairly straight-forward remake with the central characters, Roger Murtaugh (played by Glover) and Martin Riggs (played by Gibson) starring in their familiar roles.
The pilot kicks off with Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs moving to Los Angeles to start fresh after the loss of his wife and baby. It's there where he gets partnered with LAPD Detective Roger Murtaugh, who has to avoid stress after suffering a "minor" heart attack.
It will be written by former Chuck executive producer Matt Miller. He'll be reuniting with Forever executive producer Dan Lin whose Warner Bros-based Lin Pictures is producing the project alongside WBTV and Miller’s Good Session Prods. banner. Miller, Lin and Jennifer Gwartz executive produce.
The great thing is that this is a TV series, so it will actually make sense for it to keep going and going... unlike, perhaps, the movies which went one movie too far with the sequels, tbh.
