Andy Weir's novel, The Martian, is adapted into this expertly shot and well performed sci-fi flick of fictional astronaut, Mark Watney, and his year and a half long ordeal as he is left stranded on Mars after a hazardous dust storm swipes him off his feet, thus having his crew believe him to be dead. Cinematographer Dariusz Wolski manages to frame gorgeous scenery of a seemingly unseen planet to most of the world and bring to life a vibrant and vast landscape. Matt Damon brings a solid performance for most of the film and helps capture some comedic moments in what would otherwise be total solidarity and loneliness. Overall, a different and fresh vision for the science fiction genre of cinema.
