The recent announcement of the new Bloodborne DLC 'The Old Hunters' reopening the doors of Yharnam has left fans of the series with some questions. The main question on every gamers' lips: what new weapons will we get to use to hunt down beasts and maniacs alike? From Software hasn't released an official announcement listing out the new weapons. But both the trailer and gameplay footage have teased what we can expect when we don our hunter gear once more in this new blood-crazed chapter of Bloodborne. Here's a short list of seven new weapons we can expect to get our hands on in 'The Old Hunters' DLC. Please note that all weapon names, except Simon's Bowblade, are unofficial names!

Beast Cleaver

When the Threaded Cane wasn't enough!
When the Threaded Cane wasn't enough!

The Beast Cleaver appears to be the Strength-based counterpart of the Threaded Cane. It can transform from a brutal cleaver to a massive whip to deal huge damage to groups of enemies. The only downside to this weapon is the same that exists with the Threaded Cane - its whip mode can leave players vulnerable to other attacks if used at the wrong time. This weapon, however, will definitely be effective when dealing with hordes of beasts or whatever else Yharnam throws at us.

The Bloodborne Wiki provides an unofficial translation of the weapon description to give us an idea of how brutal this weapon truly is!

"A trick weapon used by Old Hunters. The thick iron blade made to cut hard flesh will trick and split the blade, that can be used as a heavy whip. This rough and strength-dependent weapon cannot be said to be refined. Thus the Hunt of The hunters of old was gruesome, and they drenched themselves in the stench of red blood."

Simon's Bowblade

Perfect for the hunt!
Perfect for the hunt!

This has to be the most interesting addition to Bloodborne's arsenal - the return of the bow and arrow which is most commonly associated with the other Souls games. Gameplay footage shows this weapon to be a little awkward to handle, as it goes against the normal 'in your face' combat style that most players are used to seeing. However, this will give players the opportunity to take a step back and tactically evaluate each situation they go into, instead of charging in recklessly or wasting important items. And, most importantly, it's a bow and arrow AND a blade. Bowblades are cool!

If that wasn't enough for you to consider this bad boy as your new weapon-of-choice, check out the unofficial translation of the weapon description from the Bloodborne Wiki.

"Known as one of the first hunters of the Healing Church, Simon's Hunting Blade. The Church Workshop crafted this special item for him who hated Guns. The large and bent blade can convert to a bow via a mechanism. But some besides his few friends would ridicule Hunter Simon for challenging beasts with a bow."

Buzzsaw Hammer

*insert maniacal laughter here*
*insert maniacal laughter here*

Ok, out of all the cool weapons that From Software put into 'The Old Hunters' this has to be my favourite! Nothing says "huge amounts of damage" like a buzzsaw at the end of a pipe, and the Buzzsaw Hammer brings just that. Transforming from what appears to be a short pipe into a buzzsaw-styled hammer give players a great deal of damage at a good range. I'll definitely be trying this one out first!

Burial Cleaver

The Saw Cleaver's crazy brother.
The Saw Cleaver's crazy brother.

Like the Saw Cleaver, the Burial Cleaver is a curved blade that transforms into an even bigger blade, and changes from rapid attacks to slow, high damage attacks. Now now, I know you're all thinking, "Wait, that's it? There's no more to it?!" As of now, it appears that way. But, the lack of change from the Saw Cleaver to the Burial Cleaver has me wondering, what more could From Software add to this weapon to make it superior to it's serrated-edge brother? Maybe some hidden effects to make the Burial Cleaver much more deadly, or simply do more damage. Only one way to find out!

Flint-Strike Hammer

Bringin' the heat!
Bringin' the heat!

Another really cool weapon, the Flint-strike hammer is a warhammer that contains a flint that you can use to set it, and sequentially your enemies, on fire. It's quite similar to the Tonitrus in the way it deals elemental damage. The only change is that the flame goes out after hitting an enemy. This could mean that players would have to wait a small amount of time before using it again. But when you have a flaming warhammer, it doesn't change anything!

Sword and Shield

Finally! A way to block spells!
Finally! A way to block spells!

Along with Simon's Bowblade, the Sword and Shield is another flashback to the Souls games - and goes against the traditional 'in your face' gameplay style players are so used to seeing. Although Bloodborne does feature a flimsy Wooden Shield, this Shield allows players to block and possibly deflect arcane spells! There has been no insight into what the Sword will grant players, but it's sure to 'twist' their minds! Geddit? Because the Sword's twisty? Ah, forget it.

Pick of Death

What do you mean it's not a guitar pick?
What do you mean it's not a guitar pick?

A mixture between a pike and pickaxe, the Pick of Death grants players the ability to switch between long range stabbing attacks to wide sweeping attacks. This weapon will allow players to deal with individual enemies and groups with ease - until the next boss comes along. Good luck!
