Telugu Cinema, popularly known as Tollywood is a part of Bollywood (the Indian film industry) that specializes in the production of films in the Telugu language. It is mainly found in the Indian states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Hyderabad district of Film Nagar is particularly associated with the production of Telugu cinema.

The industry was started in the early 1900s by Raghupathi Naidu. Over the years, Telugu cinema has continued to grow and since the late 1990s and early 2000s, the industry has produced a number of box office movies. For instance, in 2005, 2006, and 2008, Tollywood produced the largest number of movies even exceeding the movies produced by Bollywood. Currently the industry holds the Guinness World Record for having the biggest production facility.

Telugu movies have continued to dominate cinema screens in many parts of the world, as the genre becomes more popular with an international audience. For instance, Telugu movie channels introduced in Malaysia and Singapore have received unexpected viewership as many people tune in to watch their favourite movies and soaps. This huge following even in other continents has continued to spearhead the growth of the industry. It is not a surprise to note that many companies are now streaming live Telugu movies due to this growth especially in Singapore and Malaysia.

Due to this growth on an international scale, it is now not surprising to find Telugu popular actors and actresses now earning huge amounts of money. Some of the current popular actors include Prabhas, Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Jr. NTR and Akkineni Naga Chaitanya among others. In the same way, their female counterparts have not been left aside and it is not surprising to note that actresses like Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Hansika and Samantha Ruth Prabhu have also become international superstars.

Since the early 2000s, Telugu cinema has produced a number of box office movies raking millions in box office sales. For instance, Dookudu released in 2011 and Eega released in 2012 each raked more than 15 million dollars in box office sales worldwide. Since 2013, Telugu movies have earned more than two hundred million in box office sales.

One movie that has made headlines in 2015 is Bahubali- The Beginning. This movie sales are close to one hundred million and the figure is expected to rise as the movie is screened by satellite televisions in different parts of the world. The movie also have a part-2 which will be released by next year. Other popular Telugu movies released in 2015 include Akhil, Rudrama Devi, Bruce Lee, Sardar Gabbar Singh and Kanche.
