Looking at the gaming world right now and the usual flood of open-world AAA titles we're all saturated with, there's really only one external influence that The Legend of Zelda needs: [Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain](tag:2683985). Kojima's progression from the narrative-focused Metal Gear Solid games of the past to one of the most gameplay-centred titles in recent years is remarkable. Any franchise making the move to an open-world framework needs to observe the mastery of The Phantom Pain and learn well!

But in terms of inward inspiration and drawing from the series' own past, The Legend of Zelda Wii U needs to draw from one game in particular for whenever its release date may actually be!

The Legend of Zelda Wii U - Learning From the Best of Zelda!

We all have our favourite Zelda titles. Whether it be the game that introduced us to the franchise, or the one that refined everything we loved about earlier instalments, it's hard not to be captivated by Nintendo and their masterful game design. But when I look at The Legend of Zelda, there's always one title that comes directly to mind. Now I love Ocarina of Time, I adore The Wind Waker, and the mastery of Skyward Sword never fails to captivate! But the one that always grabs me is one of the most unusual games this developer has ever produced.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Stare into the eyes of genius. When Nintendo created one of gaming's most revered masterpieces, Ocarina of Time, they must have felt insurmountable pressure upon their shoulders to surpass the remarkable achievements of this title. The extraordinary thing is though, it only took them two years to achieve just that!

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask attempted to uproot the traditions of a Zelda game. It introduced a new gaming mechanic that no one had experienced before, it presented us with a much bleaker depiction of Hyrule, and I don't think any game has surpassed its sense of urgency. Majora's Mask is by far the most immersive Zelda title for me, as it draws you into its dark and twisted world of many faces and powerful masks.
