After the immense success of M. Night Shyamalan's low budget shakycam thriller The Visit, the director is looking to his next suspense-filled project which his Signs collaborator Joaquin Phoenix has been tied to. But there's a twist! Joaquin Phoenix is no longer involved.

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

Reasons for Phoenix’s exit were not revealed but sources said a deal was never made, with one source saying the process never got past the discussion stage.

But all hope is not lost, because Professor X himself, James McAvoy is in talks to join the as-yet-untitled film.

Jason Blum, who worked with Shyamalan on The Visit, is returning to produce. Further details about the project are thin on the ground, though it's said to be similarly low-budget and, knowing Shyamalan, high concept. Watch this space for more information.
