I'm back and it's time for one of my favorite articles to write, a film ranking! If you haven't read my previous ranking lists, go check them out here. But if you're just here for Mission Impossible, then, who am I to get in the way?
As always I like to say that this article is just opinion based. I'm not asking you to agree with mine or anyone else's opinion, but I am asking that you be respectful to all opinions that are shared. With that don let's get started!
5. Mission Impossible-2
Everyone that hates on this movie needs to stop! No it isn't the best, yes it has its problems, but at the end of the day it is a good movie. Just not as good as the others. This one is just really boring. I'm sorry, but it is! It takes everything that we loved about the first movie, and ignores it. It's slow, the love story is pointless (I mean, he marries another woman in 3 soo...), and the story doesn't make much sense. However, it has some fantastic action sequences! The motorcycle scene is great, every shootout is fantastic, and would this be a John Woo movie, without dramatic doves? Overall, it's a fun movie that you can sit down and enjoy, whether you tear it apart or just wait for some awesome action!!
4. Mission Impossible-3
This movie is definitely a step-up from number 2. The story is much better, the acting is top notch and the action is, dare I say, better as well. J.J. Abrams directoral debut gave us one of the best villain performances out of the entire franchise! The late Philip Seymour Hoffman was a fantastic with his sinister devices, evil plans and his threatening demeanor on camera. Add that with the suspenseful tone of J.J. Abrams, the fantastic crew to go along with Tom Cruise, and the fantastic story, you get the wonder that is Mission Impossible-3.
3. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Let me just say that the idea of Ghost Protocol in and of itself would be a fantastic movie whether or not you add the Mission Impossible name to it. With IMF no longer in play, the surviving agents have to team up to take down a global terrorist with what little resources they have. That is awesome. The acting was fantastic, the story was incredible and that scene when Tom Cruise climbs the building was the most incredible thing ever!! We'll be talking about that scene for a very long time. And let's talk about Jeremy Renner as Brandt. This character is so interesting and plays so well with Ethan Hunt that you are just compelled to watch them every time they are on screen together. And when you get to the twist at the end, you love his character even more! A fantastic film that really knocked it out of the park.
Also it was revolutionary for bringing back more characters than Ving Rhames.
2. Mission Impossible
I know a lot of you might hate me for this one but can you blame me? This movie was fantastic, but 5 was better, but we'll get there. As far as reboots and turning TV shows into movies go, this is probably one of the best ones to ever happen. It came out during a period where all the old TV shows were being turned into movies and it was one of the few to actually be successful. Following the format of the television show, we see a team of IMF agents tasked with hunting down a bad guy while using a bunch of cool gadgets, but on a much larger scale. A parallel to James Bond, we get a fantastic story, exceptional acting and such care from Tom Cruise about this movie that you can't help but fall in love with it. The twists are amazing and the way they reveal it is even better. Also, that scene on the rope. How many times has that been copied? That scene is the definition of iconic. An A+ film that will always be loved and remembered.
1. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
This movie was phenomenal! It is really the only film in the franchise to focus on the fallout of a previous movie and that is something that every other sequel was missing! The actions of the previous movie didn't matter, it was a new movie so new cast, new story and the older movies didn't really matter. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, but clearly, it would've made those films better. But this movie blew me away! They bought back more characters, they made what happened in Ghost Protocol work to raise the stakes in this movie, and can we talk about how Alec Baldwin actually cared? This movie is definitely the best of the bunch. From the opening shot, you are thrust into the action and it doesn't slow down until the credits roll. One of my all time favorite movies, it is undoubtedly the best movie of them all.
What do you think? How would you rank these films? Let me know down in the comments!
