Happy birthday to actor and musician Guy Pearce! He turns 48 today.

Pearce got his start in television before landing supporting, but memorable, roles in L.A. Confidential and Rules of Engagement, but it was his starring turn in Christopher Nolan's Memento in 2000 that was his true breakout role. Comic book movie fans, of course, know him best from his role as genius villain, Extremis junkie, and rival to Tony Stark, Aldrich Killian, in Iron Man 3.

As an actor, Pearce steadily balances blockbuster roles with critically-acclaimed ones. Some of his most notable films to date are The Time Machine, The Count of Monte Cristo, Factory Girl, The King's Speech, The Hurt Locker, The Road, and Prometheus. His turn as Monty Bergon in 2011's miniseries Mildred Pearce won him the Emmy for Oustanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie.

When not acting, Pearce is also a passionate musician, having written the songs for various soundtracks throughout his career. He released his first solo album, Broken Bones, in 2014.

His next movie is the highly-anticipated sci-fi love story, Equals, also starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult.

Happy birthday to Guy Pearce!
