August 9th 2008 was sad a day in Hollywood and across America. We lost a great, funny and amazing man to Sarcoidosis/Pneumonia, he did leave behind his jokes, quotes, movies and shows for us to look back at and laugh. Yesterday was this great man's birthday so let's smile and take time out of our day to remember some of those great and funny times we had with the King of Comedy... Bernie Mac.
Bernie Mac Foundation
Back in 2006 Bernie Mac started "The Bernie Mac Foundation" to try to build more awareness of disease Sarcoidosis. Mr. Mac wanted to use his celebrity position to create a place to learn about and discuss the disease, to make research easier and more obtainable for the less fortunate. In 2008 the US Congress declared April as National Sarcoidosis Awareness Month. Before his tragic death he brought so much awareness to the fatal disease, he was such a beautiful man.
The Bernie Mac Show
This was my favorite when I was younger. I always ran to the TV when it came on and it also brought my family together. We would all sit around laughing and watching this wonderful show - it was a great pass time in my home. When they stopped airing new episodes, we would still sit around and watch the reruns like it was a new show premiere for the first time. He brought a lot of joy into homes that will stay there forever.
And His Beautiful Quotes
"I'm not a star, and I don't want to be a star. Stars fall. I'm an ordinary guy with an extraordinary job" - Bernie Mac
"I can't build myself by beating somebody down" - Bernie Mac
"I don't have no story. Everybody wants his Hollywood story, but the world don't owe you nothing man. It's what you owe the world." - Bernie Mac
"When you're offstage, that's the footprint. That's the man God's gonna judge" - Bernie Mac
"My Grandmother always told me how you start is how you finish" - Bernie Mac
He said so many great words and gave to much joy to millions of people. If you would like to pay tribute to Mr. Mac today wear something purple and show your support for him and Sarcoidosis.
