WARNING!!! POTENTIAL SPOILERS FROM SEASON 1!!!
With the cliffhanger and teasers that ended the first season of the hit show The Flash, fans are eagerly looking forward what will come next and with the second season premiere to air October 6th, they won’t have to wait much longer. But for those of you who just can not wait, here is what fans can expect to see in the upcoming season of CW’s “The Flash.”
The biggest teaser from the season one finale was the Crimson Comets’ helmet falling through the portal created by Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), and HarrisonWells/Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh). We know now from the promos for the upcoming second season that Jay Garrick, who will be played by Teddy Sears, also known to fans of the comics as the Golden Age Flash from Earth 2. In the trailer titled “Other Worlds”, we see Garrick standing in STAR Labs giving Barry a warning about a new villain named Zoom. Now in many of the comics, Eobard Thawne, who in this show took the name Reverse-Flash, was known as Professor Zoom. It is unknown if the creators will stick to the comics in this respect or not seeing as Thawne/Wells died during the season one finale at the cost of Eddie Thawnes’ life. Although from a few stills from the filming of the second season shown from an article written by Mike Cicchini for www.denofgeek.us/tv/the-flash, we might see that Wells has survived somehow. Garrick warns Barry that Zoom is coming and he is after The Flash. It seems that Flash will have to deal with this new “Big Bad” along with the new Meta-Humans he is sure to come across as well.
Speaking of Meta-Humans, we can also expect to see a couple of new faces, including a fairly notable adversary called Atom-Smasher who has the ability to shrink and grow at will. We’ll also see the return of “team Flash” which includes Cisco (Carlos Valdes), Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), Joe West (Jessi Martin), and Iris West (Candice Patton), who will undoubtedly be helping Barry Allen in all of his new challenges.
In another trailer for the second season, we also see that Central City has recognized the Flash and has introduced “Flash Day” which, in the comics, is a celebration and a day of thanks dedicated to Flash. It is also, however, a day where Flash’s enemies tend to attack him the most out of jealousy. Whether this will happen in this season or not is yet to be known.
One of the other big reveals about season two will be the change to Flash’s costume. In season one, he bore the classic encircled lightning bolt but with a red background. From recent promo posters for season two, we see that there is a change to his suit. He now wears the encircled lightning bolt but with a white background instead of the red. This is the classic symbol from the comic books. In the first season, Cisco, Caitlin, and Barry see the new symbol when they are in Wells’ secret room and see a hologram of a newspaper from the future. Cisco actually thinks its really sick and then wonders if they decide to use that symbol, if they would have gotten the idea from the future flash, which involves a lot of time paradox theories and such which are really only understandable by super science nerds.
Season two of the Flash has a hype behind it unlike no other show. So many teasers were shown in the finale of season one and it left fans with a huge cliffhanger of Flash running into the vortex to save Central City. Will Flash succeed with closing the vortex? Probably but at what cost. What role does this new Flash play? Who is Zoom? All of these questions and more are soon to be answered when Flash comes back for it’s second season on October 6th, 2015.
