Star Wars: Episode VIII has been rumored to be casting a female lead for awhile. Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Gina Rodriguez (Jane The Virgin), and Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) are all part of the shortlist. Gugu Mbatha-Raw can be added to the list. She starred in Beyond the Lights. She will co-star with Will Smith in the upcoming Concussion.

Latino-Review, who also was the source for the above rumor, is also reporting thet Disney and Lucasfilm is casting, not one, but two important female roles for the movie.

The Flash is set to star Ezra Miller and to open March 3, 2018. We now know who will probably be directing. The author of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Seth Grahame-Smith will write and direct.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Grahame-Smith is still in negotiations for the film. Phil Lord and Chris Miller wrote the treatment for the film, but will be doing the Han Solo spin-off film for Lucasfilm.

Taika Waititi is talks to direct Thor: Ragnarok, according in The Wrap. Yeah, don't worry. I don't know him either. His most recent and biggest film was What We Do in the Shadows, a vampire comedy that is actually pretty funny. Disney must really like him, though. He did write the upcoming princess animated movie, Moana.

Marvel has never run away from giving their properties to lesser know directors. James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and The Russo Brothers (Captian America: The Winter Soldier) immediately come to mind.

Thor: Ragnarok is set for November 3, 2017.
