It's been almost two decades since Halloweentown first aired on televisions around the world for the first time, enchanting all of its viewers with the exciting and magical adventure of Marnie, Dylan, and Sophie Piper! I think I speak for everyone when I say this is a dream come true.
St. Helens, Oregon is where the movie was originally filmed in 1998. Apparently, every year they celebrate by lighting the Jack-o-lantern replica they have of the one Marnie lights to rid Halloweentown of the evil warlock Kalabar! This year, however, residents of the historic town will play host to none other than Kimberly J. Brown herself!
Kimberly officially announced she would be attending the festival via YouTube stating, "I am going to dust off the old broom, pull out my witches cloak and fly on up to Halloweentown and kick off the festivities for the month." My heart melted when I first watched it. If you were a kid in the '90s, then you know just how big this is! This movie brought every kid's dream to life. It shaped our view of what it would be like to live in a magical world (before Harry Potter of course) full of monsters, goblins, witches, and ghosts!
I think the only thing that could make this homecoming better would be if they were to reenact the scene where Marnie embraces her powers and overcomes Kalabar's dark spell long enough to drop the talisman in the jack-o-lantern. Freeing all that inhabit Halloweentown from the freezing spell!
Wishful thinking I guess but one can dream! Sadly, I will be unable to attend but if any of you are planning a trip or just going to be in the area on October 10th, I can think of no better way to celebrate Halloween than joining Kimberly Brown as she returns to her roots. You never know, you might even get to witness a little Cromwell magic. As Aggie Cromwell would say "Magic is really very simple, all you've got to do is want something and then let yourself have it!" Do you believe?
How stoked are you for the return of the Cromwell witch? Will you be attending the festival or keeping up with the live tweets?
