HOLY CRAP! I can't believe they showed Finnick! Did you see those mutts?! This final Mockingjay Part 2 trailer is the most explosive yet, so let's break it down!
In the final trailer for [The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2](tag:449866), Katniss, Peeta, Finnick, and Gale are subjected to the horrors of the Capitol as they fight to defeat President Snow and end the 'Hunger Games' once and for all! I may have read the books and know everything that is going to happen, but I am still not prepared for this, like, at all! The final Mockingjay Part 2 trailer hits on some major moments in the last film and book that have my mind reeling over the horrors the Capitol has for our Girl on Fire, including a football field sized metal grinder to puree human bodies with... and nightmarish mutts with razor sharp teeth... Yeah.
If you're like me, after seeing this trailer your sanity was compromised. You're angry, you're hurt, and you are more ready than ever to take down President Snow alongside Katniss, once and for all, dammit! Let's try to make sense of the most explosive moments from the Mockingjay Part 2 trailer...
"I love you, too..."
There is a new voice-over in this trailer, a voice-over of Prim returning Katniss' "I love you." It would seem like the filmmakers behind Mockingjay are actually trying to kill us. Katniss and Prim have an unbreakable bond that President Snow has exploited to control Katniss throughout the Games, and there is only one way for that control over Katniss to be broken.
The way Katniss looks at Peeta
WHY?! My heart broke into a million pieces when seeing the loss and grief in Katniss' face as she looks at Peeta. The boy with the bread, the one that used to be her rock, but now cannot even be near her without trying to kill her. Katniss needs Peeta now more than ever, and you can see the devastation in her face knowing she can't depend on him anymore. Well, good thing you can't see the ugly tears streaming down mine!
"Stop killing for him!"
Perhaps the most powerful words to ever come out of Katniss' mouth. She makes a plea to the Peacekeepers and people of the Capitol to turn against everything they know, to fight for the greater good; and, dang, does Katniss look fierce as heck in her Mockingjay outfit - designed by the one and only Cinna (R.I.P.).
Finally, Johanna Mason
The trailers for Mockingjay Part 2 have been noticeably sparse with a few characters, including our beloved firecracker Johanna Mason. Along with Peeta, Johanna was tortured in the Capitol at the hands of Snow for her efforts to save Katniss. We finally get a good look at our precious Johanna... and it's heartbreaking. She's suffered the unspeakable, but her spirit shines through as she looks to Katniss with the same fight she's always had in her eyes. Our Johanna is still in there somewhere, and we're going to get her back!
Katniss and the Peacekeeper
Katniss and her Star Squad are in enemy territory for the majority of Mockingjay Part 2, and so, she must do anything to keep their identities concealed when out in the open of the Capitol. Katniss walks the streets among the Capitol citizens wearing the large couture jacket that Tigress bestowed upon her. Without warning, a Capitol Peacekeeper reaches his hand out for Katniss' shoulder—has she been discovered? Is this the end?!
Yes, that mutt. The mutt that tackles Finnick to the ground in the sewers. The mutt that I can't believe they showed in the trailer. The one that changes everything. The one that I need to stop talking about because I'm about to lose it. This, my friends, will not be an easy thing to watch in Mockingjay. Actually, how about we pretend it doesn't happen, capisce?
The Capitol has designed the most sophisticated weapons with one purpose, to kill Katniss Everdeen and all who stand by her. From walls of tar to beams of light that cause uncontrollable bleeding from every orifice, the horrors are not in short supply. Unfortunately... we get to see some new horrors in the trailer, aside from a second look at the flesh eating mutts and metal grinder that we've seen before, like the beams of light that literally disintegrate anything they touch into dust. How Katniss and her team will survive these attacks - or if they will - is what keeps me up at night. I have The Hunger Games to thanks for that.
This trailer makes it clear that even after Katniss was rescued from the Games in Catching Fire, the Games never truly ended. As Finnick says...
