As counterintuitive as it may seem, it's often said that fame leads to isolation. Skyrocketing to sudden stardom isn't an experience that naturally fosters a sense of groundedness, and it can be hard for the more habitual aspects of a pre-public life, like childhood friends, to persist amongst the glitz and glamor.

But what if you and your BFF both managed to make it big? Exactly that happened to these 7 celebrity bezzies, who, as the eyes of the world turned on them, hung onto the comforting normality of their childhood friendship.

1. Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie

You might have known that Kim and Paris Hilton hung out growing up, but did you know that this Kardashian's real tight pal has always been Nicole Richie? Having grown up in the same area, these two shared a social circle right from adolescence, and can still be seen catching up in front of the spotlight.

2. Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson

Having starred in almost all of Wes Anderson's films, you probably already guessed there was somewhat of a bromance brewing between these two. In fact, they first met at the University of Texas after taking the same playwriting class and have been collaborating ever since.

3. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire

Crossing paths while auditioning as kids, Leo and Tobey have remained seriously tight for decades. DiCaprio remembers:

"After I met Tobey at an audition, I felt like I wanted this guy to be my friend. I remember driving back from school and he was doing Hot Rod Brown Class Clown with Whoopi Goldberg outside Hollywood High. It was a high school. And I jumped out of my car in the middle of the scene, as they were shooting, practically." Leo added, "I was like, 'Tobey! Tobey! Tobey! Give me your number.' He was like, 'Yeah, who are you again?'"

You'd think Spidey would be the one begging for Leo's digits...

4. Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez

After crossing paths on Barney and Friends when they were just 7 years old, Lovato and Gomez started a lifelong friendship that remains as strong as ever.

5. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

Both of these Hollywood hollywood heavyweights attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Massachusetts, where they collaborated on a pet project screenplay. This, of course, turned out to be Good Will Hunting, which netted nine Academy Award nominations and kickstarted the duo's careers overnight. Now that's a friendship made in heaven.

6. Victoria Justice and Taylor Lautner

Way before either were famous, Taylor Lautner and Victoria Justice were simply close friends. The pair still regularly hang out, often attracting scandalous dating rumors.

7. Elijah Wood and Scarlett Johansson

Elijah and Scarlett starred opposite each other in 1994's North, and have remained good buddies since then. Johansson guards her privacy fiercely, but you can still catch occasional glimpses of the two hanging out.
