As kids and teenagers looking physically different from our peers can often mean ridicule or taunts, though as we grow older, often these body quirks become a sense of pride - marking us as unique from anyone else.
However, in an image-based industry like Show Business, a physical difference might be the reason between booking or not booking a job. Noses, cheeks, brows, stomachs and breasts are frequently lifted, sculpted, injected or enhanced in order to fit the bodily norm that has been set over the years. But for every celebrity being enhanced by surgery, there are also those who embrace their flaws. Take a look at these seven celebrities that have or had very interesting body quirks, but who are all totally proud of them:
1. Steve Buscemi
Golden Globe winner Steve Buscemi told The Hollywood Reporter back in 2011 that despite advice early in his career, and offers from professionals to fix his crooked teeth, he's resisted all offers, saying:
"I've had dentists who have wanted to help me out, but I say, 'You know, I won't work again if you fix my teeth"
2. Catherine Zeta-Jones
Catherine Zeta-Jones has a noticeable scar on her neck, which was the result of a life saving tracheotomy surgery she underwent as a child. She once told People Magazine:
"Makeup artists are always trying to cover it up, but I don't want to hide it. I wouldn't be here today if I didn't have this scar."
3. Ashton Kutcher
Actor and TV host, Ashton Kutcher has webbed toes, but far from being ashamed of the quirk, he joked about it on the BBC talkshow Friday Night with Jonathan Ross:
"I have connected toes, they're webbed. They're slightly webbed -- when everything else is so good-looking, something has to give!"
Kutcher isn't the only actor with webbed toes...
4. Dan Aykroyd
Dan Aykroyd has much more severely webbed toes than Ashton Kutchen, with two toes on each foot being webbed to the top knuckle. Check out the video above of Aykroyd showing off his toes, and revealing the following:
"I'm also deformed, in fact I'm proud to say I'm actually a genetic mutant. Genetically mutated since birth. And that mutation manifests itself in my feet"
In addition to his webbed toes, Aykroyd also has heterochromia, a condition which means his right eye is green, while his left eye is brown.
5. Anna Paquin
Academy Award winner, Anna Paquin has a diastema, or gap between her front teeth, but rather than get painful dental work to have the gap closed, she has embraced it. Talking to Us Weekly about the gap, she said:
"I find it rude when someone asks me why I never 'fixed' the gap in my teeth!"
6. Mark Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg is one of a small group of people who have a supernumerary nipple, a.k.a. a third nipple! Yep, you read correctly! However, unlike singer Carrie Underwood who had hers removed because she was embarrassed by it, Wahlberg is a little more proud of his quirk, even flashing it to audiences in his film Shooter.
7. Gemma Arterton
Gemma Arterton inherited her quirk, polydactyly, from her grandfather and father. She explained it during an interview on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross:
"My granddad had it, and my dad — I’m so proud of it. I was born with two extra fingers, one on each hand."
"They didn’t have a bone in them, so they just took them off."
Despite no longer having her two extra digits, she does admit that she has extra sensitivity at the points where the fingers once were.
