The 1990 movie Flatliners circulated around bringing 5 Hollywood A-listers, including Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland, back from the dead. Now it seems, 25 years later, a new bunch of fresh stars will be dragged beneath the flatline in a reboot supposedly starring Ellen Page.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Page is currently in talks with Sony about starring in the sci-fi thriller remake. If her role in Inception is anything to go by, this casting decision is a solid choice and I could totally see her playing Julia Roberts's character, Dr. Rachel Mannus.
Niels Arden Oplev, the director behind the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is reportedly on board to adapt a screenplay by Source Code scribe Ben Ripley. David Blackman and Laurence Mark will join as producers.
For those unfamiliar with the plot-line, the narrative went as follows:
Aiming to steal the secrets of death, Flatliners, is the 1990 American sci-fi, horror thriller starring Keifer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt as they conduct their own near-death experiences. Each heart was stopped and then revived, resulting in repressed childhood memories haunting their reality. The nightmarish flashes reflected sins each member had either committed or had been committed against them, and, as the experiences intensified and became increasingly physical, they had to go deeper into the afterlife to find a cure for the present.
