Claire Danes has reflected on a rather sticky situation in her past, which put her in the firing line with the world's press twelve years ago.
Back then, the actress was heavily criticized for her relationship with Billy Crudup, who left his then-pregnant girlfriend, Mary-Louise Parker, to be with her. Despite the fact that at the time Parker was 7-months with child, Crudup still abandoned the vulnerable woman for the Homeland star. And it seems that even to this day, the controversy has had lasting effects.
But now, Claire has defended her actions and finally spoken up, saying that the relationship was something she "needed to explore" despite the trauma that it caused. Speaking about how the press reacted to their controversial romance, she told Howard Stern on the SiriusXM radio show:
"That was a scary thing. That was really hard. I didn't know how to not do that."
Speaking of her Stage Beauty co-star, she added:
"I was just in love with him. And needed to explore that and I was 24... I didn't quite know what those consequences would be. [...] But It's okay, I went through it."
And despite admitting that she was young and careless at the time, Danes went as far as to say that now all is well:
"We're friendly, we're friends."
And aren't we glad! After all, today the 36-year-old is happily married to ex-Hannibal star Hugh Dancy, with whom she has a child, Cyrus.
And what of Mary-Louise Parker?
Ever since the fiasco, Parker, who is now 51-years-old, has kept quiet about the affair but is most likely to address it in her upcoming memoir, Dear. Mr. You.
Apparently, the book will include a series of letters that the Weeds actress had written to the men in her life, Crudup being among them. Together, the two share an 11-year-old son.
One thing I know is that I sure wouldn't want to be in Crudup's shoes when that book hits the shelves in November!
