The team at Trek Dating felt it was only fair to give some love to other epic Sci-Fi films of all time. So, here's a list of some unmissable sci-fi movies according to the Star Trek fans at TrekDating.com Let me know in the comments section if you think theres another movie that deserves to be on the list!

Donnie Darko

In January 2001, Donnie Darko was shown at The Sundance Festival for the first time and was due to be in cinemas in September. However, due to 9/11 it was appropriately held back for one month because the movie features a plane crash. This film is about a troubled teenager, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who seeks the meaning and significance to his doomsday related visions. Jake won the Breakthrough Performance award for his acting and this film has become more popular since it came out on DVD with the new director's cut edition. If you haven't seen this film, we recommend you do!

The Matrix

The Matrix is regarded as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time and you must have this in your DVD collection somewhere! From its release in 1999 and making in excess of $4 million it became the 5th highest grossing film of 1999. Since then the sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions have also been a big success. The first film has made the ‘bullet time’ effect famous!

WALL·E

WALL·E is a trash compactor robot designed to clean up Earth after the humans have left until it is fit to live on once more. The film came out in 2008, has grossed over $5 million and has numerous accolades including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Got to love a Disney and Pixar movie!

Jurassic Park

The multi award winning Jurassic Park is about a billionaire philanthropist who with the help of his small team of genetic scientists makes a wildlife park of cloned dinosaurs. Steven Spielberg wanted to use a giant 12 metre long T-Rex and it was the star of the show! As well as all this success there are 3 sequels to Jurassic Park and another one is in the making. Good classic.

Inception

A 2010 Christopher Nolan film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Inception depicts a professional thief who commits espionage by hacking into his targets subconscious. Not a film to watch half-heartedly; the ‘inception’ consists of a web of multi-layered scenarios...so you need to keep up! This film grossed over $800 million worldwide becoming one of the greatest films of all time.

Guardians Of The Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy is a Marvel film and it the highest-grossing superhero movie of 2014 and it received some of the best reviews of the year. After discovering a mysterious orb in another part of the galaxy and finding himself a target for villain Ronan the Accuser, Peter Quill forms a team of misfits to save the world including Drax, Gamora, Groot and Rocket Racoon! Good adult humour and a must see if you haven't already.

Avatar

Avatar was released in cinemas in December 2009 and mad a whopping $2.7 billion and won numerous awards including a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award for Production Design and Visual Effects. Not only did it win multiple awards but broke a few records too including selling the most DVDs on release day (1.5 million copies). An epic example of animation where the humans try to inhabit and befriend the world of Pandora by using genetically modified hybrid 'avatars' to explore.

Star Trek Into Darkness

Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise, sent to the Klingon homeworld looking for their former member of the Starfleet. The film grossed over $4 million in profit and have planned another sequel in 2016 which is exciting! Benedict Cumberbatch starred as Khan and won a British Artist Award for his role. It has been announced that Simon Pegg who was also in the film as Scotty is co-writing the next film. Until then, live long and prosper...
