Arrow came back yesterday with a very promising story. There were a lot of hints, teasing a shocking scene in the premiere. We finally got to see it and it now raises a lot of questions about the future of the show.
Stephen Amell said a few weeks back that this scene "does something for the remainder of the season, that there's going to be a constant jeopardy in the show, even if times are good."
Indeed, someone will die this season. The events will take place 6 months later but as point out by Marc Guggenheim, the six months will be in the show time rather than real time. So, we could expect this scene to happens around the midseason finale or maybe in one or two episode after that.
In this scene, we can measure the distress of Oliver while talking to Barry:
"There was a time I would have thought this was all my fault, that I brought this darkness upon us. Now I know it's not my fault. It's my responsibility [...] to end it. I'm gonna kill him."
We can imagine that the person responsible is Damian Darhk. Also, despite the darkness of the moment, we can see how much Oliver changed the past year: he's not blaming himself this time and is ready to do whatever it takes.
Guggenheim and Wendy Miracle also gave a lot of insight about this imminent death:
"It's not a fake out, that's not how we roll. They will stay dead. We want to bring stakes back to the show, and so we'll be finding a way to handle the Lazarus Pit portion of Season 3 in Season 4 in a new, inventive way that I can't reveal but it will be cool."
Therefore, don't expect another miracle resurrection. So from there only one question come to mind: who's gonna die ?
Felicity, Thea, Diggle even Captain Lance are all likely candidates but in six months who knows how things are going to evolve between our heroes. Only one certainty, this new season will provoke a lot of tears.
Arrow season 4 airs Wednesdays on The CW.
