Even with all the books published and the movies released, Harry Potter fans know that the series' magic will never really die. Thanks to J.K. Rowling and her commitment to her beloved characters, we keep getting new material to fuel our lifelong obsession, and today is no different.
This time, Rowling is joining forces with Apple and bringing all seven Harry Potter books to the digital world! What extras and changes do they include exactly? Hold your thestrals, man, we'll get there, but first a quick celebration is in order.
Okay, now that Emma Watson's obligatory cheering is out of the way, let's dig into everything we can expect from the new enhanced media now available in the iBooks store. Warning: This may inspire spontaneous purchasing.
The books will now offer the most immersive experience ever
Before now, you could only access digital copies of the series through the Pottermore Shop, but these new editions have been optimized for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Mac. They include over 200 illustrations, animations, annotations from J.K. Rowling, and, best of all, images that allow you to directly interact with the story!
That means that certain scenes will allow readers to be part of Harry's adventures. For example, while Harry accomplishes puzzles as he searches for the Sorcerer's Stone, we'll be able to choose which winged key he pursues. It's like the video games and the books in one!
There will even be an interactive Quidditch match!
Plus, for those who don't want to spend extra time tapping their screens to avoid Bludgers, there will always be the option to simply turn the page. It's part of an imaginative but non-invasive experience that will enhance the classic story without distracting from it.
Rowling herself couldn't be more excited to roll out this amazing collection:
I’m thrilled to see the Harry Potter books so beautifully realized on iBooks for the digital world; the artwork and animations in these enhanced editions bring the stories alive in a delightful new way.
Some animations even come with noises, but they're infrequent enough to really add a punch to pivotal moments. I'm thinking the Howler may get some action here.
Best of all, you can get the whole series right now
With new minimalist covers and little inserts from J.K. Rowling, these are pretty essential for any tech-savvy Potter fan. Each book will cost you $9.99 can now be purchased in the iBooks store.
