It was announced today by Marvel studios that the previously unconfirmed sequel to 2015's Summer hit Ant-Man will be making its way into theaters on July 6th 2018 and will be titled Ant Man & The Wasp.

The accommodation of an Ant-Man sequel in Marvel's Phase 3 of films has caused for a bit of a move around. Black Panther which was previously slated for a July 2018 release has been brought forward to February 2018. Captain Marvel has unfortunately been pushed back just a few months to March 8th 2019.

One of my few complaints when Marvel announced their Phase 3 of films was the lack of an Ant-Man sequel, especially after the film released and we all saw how great it was, but Marvel have proven in the past, they aren't afraid to move some projects around.

Lets talk about the films title; Ant Man & The Wasp. I like the title, it doesn't roll off the tongue as easily as Ant-Man but it does mean something quite significant for the film. Those of you who stuck around for the mid credits scene in Ant-Man know that Evangeline Lily's Hope Van Dyne has taken up the mantel of the Wasp from her late mother Janet and will be hard at work developing a fully functional Wasp suit with her father Hank. I was really hoping to see her again in a future movie but didn't see a place for her in any other Phase 3 films so I'm very glad we'll be getting a movie centered around her and Scott Lang (Paul Rudd).

Also announced were three untitled Marvel films all with release dates in 2020, these will presumably kick off Marvel's Phase 4 which will take place after Avengers: Infinity War.

Ant-Man & The Wasp hits theaters July 6th 2018 but you can next see Paul Rudd as Ant-Man in Captain America: Civil War hitting theaters May 6th 2016.
