With the new announcements of Ant-Man and The Wasp, and the updated dates for both Black Panther and Captain Marvel fans are speculating what it could mean! Most are pretty frustrated that Captain Marvel has been pushed back six more months, and while I'm disappointed I'll have to wait longer for one of my favorite comic book characters to finally come to the big screen here's some things to think about that may make it OK!
Marvel has yet to announce who we'll getting to see play this iconic character. This is a big deal and they know it! They're taking their time to make sure it's perfect! This is the first Marvel solo heroine. If they're pushing the movie back six months it's because they're working to find the best actress possible and possibly moving their schedule to accommodate someone great, and we just don't know it yet!
Fans of the comics know that Carol's powers came from her interaction with aliens, specifically the Kree who we saw as villains in Guardians of the Galaxy. With the new Captain Marvel release date being pushed right up against Avengers: Infinity War Part I it could mean that the Captain Marvel film may serve as a sort of prequel! With only two months between these anticipated movies it's very likely we'll see strong connections, and lead ins to Infinity Wars, and even possibly the sixth and final Infinity Stone. We might even get some screen time with Thanos himself!
Could She Lead the Avengers?
If you've seen [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](tag:293035) you know that the Avengers roster has already drastically shifted, and if you're paying attention to the upcoming Captain America: Civil War news you know that the roster is going to change again! This translates from the comics where the Avengers roster is constantly evolving while team members take breaks, get sick of each other or even when someone dies.
With Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth all coming to the end of their contracts it's very possible none of them will extend. We've already gotten lucky enough to see RDJ renew twice! With potentially three major players gone from the Avengers, and MCU in general, the team will need someone to lead it. In the wake of Infinity War I think we'll see some Avengers die (how scary is a villain who can't even kill one hero?) and we'll see others leave the team. Others, like Captain Marvel, I believe will rise to the occasion to take charge because they see the need for heroes. Danvers has done this exact thing in the comics a few times! Other "anchors" of the MCU will likely be Black Panther, Ant-Man and Spider-Man, but out of all these characters Captain Marvel makes the most sense to lead the new Avengers team and even the franchise itself! How awesome would that be? Not only the first solo super heroine film, but if a woman was to lead the freaking Avengers!
While this is all speculation, I'm very excited about this amazing character coming to the big screen! I know Marvel will handle her with great care as she's going not only become a strong character within the franchise and a household, but an awesome role model for the young female fanbase!
