Every genre has it's fair share of famous Bromances, that true friendship between two men that is almost homosexual in nature . Throughout the rise of movie , T.V, gaming comics etc we , as fans , have been given bromances as part of the story. A lot of the time it does make the item better, could you imagine Scrubs without Turk and JD's friendship?
There are too many to list them all, but most Bromances fundamentally have a lot in common. They involve two men with a deep understanding of the other, their comedy is usually golden and none of the relationships are ever wrong. Every single bromance given to us acceptable and usually encouraged by us as an integral point in the story.
Here are a few examples of how great Bromances can be and why we, as fans, love them. In the movie realm a few examples are:
Kirk and Spock
Quite possibly one of the best Bromances ever known. Kirk and Spock. The relationship between these two is sheer perfection. We should salute you both William Shatner and the late Sir Leonard Nimoy. Their portrayals made Star Trek even better, if that was possible As a bit of a "trekker" I was glad to see that they carried this relationship into the new series of movies featuring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto..
Dr Watson and Sherlock Holmes
Dr Watson and Sherlock Holmes are an inseperable pair. The have an amazing dialogue with each other and I feel this reinforced within the movies starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law . They even discuss their relationship in the movie, which is comedic gold. Well done, Sirs!
Schmidt and Jenko
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are great in 21 Jump Street. A true, modern day bromance. I realise that if it were not for this relationship the movies would not have been as good as it was. The relationship between Schmidt and Jenko is crucial to the story of 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street.
Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega
Pulp Fiction had a less 'hands on' take on Bromance but it is a Bromance none the less. These two characters would definitly have each other's backs if it were needed. Again, it would be detrimental to the movie if this relationship wasn't a feature.
Wayne and Garth
"Party time , Excellent!!" It's hard to think of Wayne's World if these two didn't share a special bond. They were some of the original actors to embrace the concept, and they did an awesome job of representing it.
JD and Turk
Obviously a well accepted Bromance , this relationship actually makes both characters a lot more enjoyable to watch.. Again, it's hard to imagine Scrubs without it. They openly embrace the concept and positively reinforce it. Pave the way, gentlemen...
Ross, Chandler and Joey
This is a rather unique example because the bromance includes three men. Chandler Bing is close with both Ross and Joey, pictured above. As an integral part of the Friends, I don't think it would have been nearly as popular if this Bromance wasn't featured
SpongeBob and Patrick
Not all bromances involve real people. Above is the cartoon character Spongebob Squarepants and his best friend, Patrick Star. A bromance for the ages, they are unashamedly proud of the dynamic and I personally think it adds to the cartoon and is not a negative in any way.
ooooh, who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
Not all relationships of this caliber, full on Bromance, is between two humans. For example,
Han Solo and Chewbacca
Han Solo and Chewbacca are definitely a classic duo now, that I would consider a Bromance too. There is no doubt that the relationship between these two strengthened the Star Wars franchise. We can look forward to the next installment, [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158), when these two will be back on the big screen and doing what they do best.
The list of dynamic relationships like this are endless. Harry and Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber, Danny Ocean and Rusty from Oceans 11, 12 and 13, Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller in Zoolander, Batman and Robin, Bert and Ernie... The list could go on forever. Bromances are here and I for one are glad!
Please let me know your favourite bromance in the comments section! Or maybe you can think of an on-screen Bromance that din't happen? Let me know! Until next time folks-Ciao
